Koraidon and Miraidon start out as fairly slow rides, and Dash is the first upgrade that fixes that. It is tied to the Path of Legends story branch rather than gym badges, so a new save can reach it within the first couple of hours of open-world play.
Quick answer: Defeat Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan in South Province (Area Three), then feed your mount the Sweet Herba Mystica sandwich Arven prepares. Dash is then permanent.
What Dash does and which button activates it
Dash makes Koraidon or Miraidon sprint while you are riding. To use it, press down on the Left Stick while moving. The extra speed also changes how the overworld reacts to you, because ramming a tree at dash speed knocks any Pokémon hiding in the branches to the ground and starts a battle with them.
Dash also makes some gaps and slopes easier to clear, which is useful long before you unlock the higher jump and climbing upgrades.

- Finish the opening academy tutorial in Mesagoza, which opens the three story paths and hands you your ride.
- Accept the Path of Legends objective from Arven, which adds “The Search for the Stony Cliff Titan” to your quest list.
- Bring a team around level 16, which is the level Klawf is set at.
- Pack at least one Water, Grass, Ground, Fighting or Steel-type attacker.
- Leave Flying-types on the bench, since Klawf’s Rock-type moves hit them hard.
If you picked Sprigatito or Quaxly, your starter already covers the matchup. Fuecoco players should catch something suitable first, and the fields south of Mesagoza or the grass just outside the west gate are both fine for that.
Stony Cliff Titan location and reward
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Titan | Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan |
| Type and level | Rock, Lv. 16 |
| Region | South Province (Area Three) |
| Reward | Sweet Herba Mystica, Titan Badge (Rock) |
Open your map and look for the Path of Legends marker in South Province (Area Three), just west of Artazon. The two easiest starting points are the Mesagoza (East) gate and the Artazon (West) Pokémon Center. From either one, ride toward the red cliffs and follow the dirt path uphill, jumping the canyon gap where the trail breaks.

How to beat Klawf in both battle phases
The Titan fight runs in two stages. You handle the first one alone, and Arven joins you with a Level 16 Shellder for the second. Klawf cannot be caught, so there is no reason to hold back or save its HP.

Do not waste turns trying to throw a Poké Ball. Titan Pokémon cannot be captured, and Klawf hits back hard enough at this stage of the game to punish lost turns.
Collect the Herba Mystica and confirm Dash is active
After the battle, follow Arven into the cave to harvest the Sweet Herba Mystica. He turns it into a sandwich on the spot, and feeding that sandwich to Koraidon or Miraidon is the actual moment the ability is granted.
You will know it worked when the “How to Dash” tutorial card appears, explaining that pressing the Left Stick makes your mount dash ahead and warning you about trees. From then on, hop on your ride and click the Left Stick while moving. If your mount speeds up, the upgrade is permanently unlocked on that save.

Dash is the first of five traversal upgrades restored this way, and every later one follows the same pattern of beating a Titan and feeding your ride the resulting sandwich. Since Klawf sits at level 16, clearing it early makes the rest of Paldea far less tedious to cross.
