Nighttime in Project Slayers 2 is genuinely dark. Fog rolls in, render distance drops, and running between zones turns into a guessing game. A Lantern fixes that, and the first one you can buy comes from a single NPC who keeps very specific hours.
Quick answer: Once night arrives, enter Bamboo Grove and locate Kuro beside the red torii gate. Open his shop, then purchase the Lantern for 2,400 Yen.
What the Lantern does
A Lantern is a light source you carry. It brightens the area around your character and extends how far you can see at night, which matters in the forest stretches and any region where the game drops the ambient light. Lanterns come in multiple tiers, so the one Kuro sells is a starting point rather than a permanent pick.

The version stocked by Kuro is the Cherry Blossom Lantern. It is not the strongest option in the game, but it is the one you can realistically afford early, and it removes the need to stumble around holding a torch.

Kuro stands in Bamboo Grove, the area used for Mother Bear farming, next to a red torii gate structure. Open your map and look for the Bamboo Grove marker. If you are coming from Windy Peak, take the path leading down out of the entrance and follow it toward the grove.

The run itself passes through Mother Bear and Bear Cub spawns. They are easy to outrun if you keep moving, but they will chase, so do not stop to fight unless you want the experience. The torii gate is your landmark once the trees thin out.

Kuro only spawns at night. If you arrive during the day, the spot beside the torii gate will be empty no matter how long you search. Wait for the in-game clock to roll over before you start looking.
How to buy the Lantern from Kuro

Other lantern sources beyond Kuro’s shop
Kuro’s stock is the only lantern you can simply buy early on. Stronger variants come from chests and world activities instead, and their brightness and bonus effects vary, so check an item’s stats before swapping.
| Source | What it offers |
|---|---|
| Kuro’s shop (Bamboo Grove) | Basic lantern for 2,400 Yen, night only |
| World Event Chests | Tied to World Adventures and events |
| Luck Chests | Multiple tiers, some guarded by NPCs |
| Higher-tier chests | Better lantern variants, low drop rates |
The Archives are the fastest way to narrow this down. Look up the specific lantern you want, check its listed source, then farm that activity instead of opening random chests across the map. Some variants have low drop rates, so expect repeat runs.
The Ember Heart Lantern grants Cold Immunity, which helps in the Snow region. That protection runs out and has to be restored at campfires placed around the area.
The original Project Slayers Lantern is a different item
Older instructions floating around describe a completely different purchase, and they apply to the first Project Slayers, not the sequel. In that game the Lantern is an Uncommon item sold in Kabiwaru Village, reachable on foot from Kiribating Village across a series of bridges and trails.

The vendor there is Kenzie, near the stairs in the center of the village, and the price is 600 Wen. Kenzie asks directly whether you want to buy a lantern, and confirming the prompt hands it over. On top of the light it provides, that version carries a +5% Health Regen bonus.

If you are playing the sequel, ignore Kenzie and Kabiwaru Village entirely. Bamboo Grove after dark, Kuro at the torii gate, and 2,400 Yen in your pocket are the only three things that matter.
