A fresh Kamado character still starts with nothing. Talk to Somi to clear out Zuko’s subordinates with fists, then take the follow-up job to rescue his little sister Ryoko, carrying her back while the bandits chase you. Bandit Zuko himself goes down to air combos.
Build up your funds by moving Grandpa Wagwon’s wagon from one side of the map to the other, then harvest rice for Sarah until you have 500 Wen; use it to buy the Green Katana from Jeph. The water trainer requires a sword in hand and enough levels before accepting you.
Water Breathing training and the Sabito fight
Water Breathing is taught by Sakonji Urokodaki, found across the bridge at the trainer house, or in Waroru Cave behind the waterfall depending on your version of the game. Entry costs 5,000 Wen and requires level 12 in the original questline. Training then runs as a numbered sequence you clear one stage at a time.

Other versions of the trial set swap in boulder cutting via quick-time prompts and meditation for lung capacity, but the final gate is always Sabito. Use Combat Intuition from the clan menu during that duel to read his attacks. Beating him unlocks Water Breathing and your first form, Water Surface Slash.
Filling out the Water Breathing skill tree
Forms unlock as Water Mastery climbs, so grind repeatable fights such as Bandit Kaden and his subordinates, and pick up mastery boosts if you have them. Water Wheel comes first and works well in vertical combos, followed by Waterfall Basin, with Dead Calm available deeper in the tree. Chests in the area can drop a Water Katana.
The last skill in the trainer questline comes from Giyen, who usually takes several attempts. Keep moving through his Water Breathing attacks and punish the recovery windows rather than trading hits.
Constant Flux, the tenth form, is separate. It is a 10% drop from the boss Giyu in Kiribating Village and needs high Water Mastery before it becomes realistic, so expect repeated runs.
Clearing Final Selection
Final Selection opens on a timer and only accepts humans at level 15 or above, so arriving early means waiting for the window. You enter with three lives, and the exam is a chain of NPC tasks rather than a single fight.
- Collect scattered fruit for the NPC who asks for it, usually an apple, banana, and grapes or a strawberry.
- Clear the roaming lesser demons across the forest for the NPC tracking them.
- Recover a lost Nichirin Katana and return it to its owner.
- Buy bandages from Rika and finish the timed bandage minigame to treat the injured NPC.
- Retrieve the submerged key by defeating The Lost, then clear the second parkour dungeon.
The Hand Demon closes the exam. Its grab is the run killer, so keep distance and use high ledges for safe positioning, thin out the rogue demons that spawn nearby, then finish it with Water Breathing forms. Teaming up with another player in the lobby makes the fight considerably shorter.
You will know the exam is complete when the Demon Slayer uniform is granted and a Kasugai Crow is assigned to you. The crow then starts handing out quests, including the one to fight Nezuko.
Buying the Checkered Haori
The Checkered Haori is the last piece of the Tanjiro look, and it only becomes available after Final Selection is cleared. Head to the clothing shop and check the stock, since the item restocks rather than sitting there permanently. Equip it over the Demon Slayer uniform and the build is finished.
From there the clan’s value shows up in fights against tougher bosses, where the extra health pool, faster breathing regeneration, and Combat Intuition let you stay aggressive through long exchanges instead of backing off to recover. Kamado does not hand you a win button, but it removes most of the stamina and survivability problems that slow down other clans.
