Roblox Deep Fishing Guide: Best Rods and Upgrade Order

The coin loop, rod purchases, and bait timing that push a new Deep Fishing account past 1,000 meters.

Deep Fishing is an incremental fishing game from LazyGames that has been live on Roblox since 18 July 2026. It is free, servers hold twelve players, and the entire game boils down to one loop: throw the lure as far as your rod allows, pull several fish out of the water on a single cast, sell the haul, and buy something that lets you throw farther. Where new players lose hours is the spend order, because coins dumped into the wrong line early leave you stuck casting into the same shallow water.

Quick answer: Buy rods before stats. Take the Bronze Rod at $12,000, then the Full Bronze Rod at $50,000, and only then spread coins across Strength, Weight, Bounce, and Capacity.

How the casting and selling loop works

Casting is hold-and-release, not a tap. You hold the input, watch the timing meter, and let go at the right moment so the lure actually reaches water. A short tap registers as an input but usually dies on the pier, which is why early throws feel random until you learn the hold length.

While the line is coming back in, you steer it through the fish in the water. One cast can pick up several fish, so the skill is filtering, not grabbing everything. Dodge the low-tier fish and steer into the rarer, higher-value ones, because inventory space is finite and a haul of junk sells for a fraction of a haul of good catches.

Consecutive casts also build a streak multiplier, so back-to-back throws are worth more than casting once and wandering off. When the bag is full, walk to the SELL stall and use Sell All Fish. Early sales land around 4.7K coins, but a single good deep run with a decent rod can clear $30.5K or more.

Check the Index menu for the water you are fishing, such as Fernshore, before a long grind. It tells you which fish you have not logged yet, which is the fastest way to know whether a run was actually productive.

Best rods to buy first: Bronze Rod and Full Bronze Rod

Rods come before everything else. A stat upgrade makes a weak rod slightly less weak, but a new rod changes which water you can reach at all, and farther water holds the rarer fish. Treat the Rod Shop as the first place your coins go after every big sale.

PurchaseCostBuy it when
Bronze Rod$12,000First real upgrade, right after the free reward claim
Full Bronze Rod$50,000Once your bank passes roughly $61K
The Pond (new water)$25,000Unlocks at Level 5

Bronze Rod is the first purchase that makes the game feel different. It is affordable almost immediately if you claim the free rewards described below, and it is enough to start pulling multi-fish hauls instead of single catches.

Full Bronze Rod is the bigger jump and the one worth saving for. Sell everything, push your total past $61K, then buy it outright in the Rod Shop rather than skimming coins off for stats along the way.

You know the purchase took effect when the rod is equipped and your next cast reports a higher distance. With the Full Bronze Rod and a round of stat upgrades behind it, a clean throw lands around 695 meters.

Upgrade order: Strength, Weight, Bounce, and Capacity

The upgrade stand carries four lines, and they all compete for the same coins. Strength is the one that governs how far the lure travels, so it is the line that unlocks new water and, by extension, new fish. Everything else is a refinement on casts you can already make.

  • Strength — distance. Keep this moving ahead of the others.
  • Weight — buy alongside Strength once a rod purchase is done.
  • Bounce — worth topping up in the same pass as Weight.
  • Capacity — raises how much a single trip is worth before you sell.

The practical rhythm is simple. After a big sale, clear the next rod first. Whatever is left over goes into the four stat lines in a single sweep, then you go back out and repeat. A $49.0K sale of twenty fish comfortably funds several upgrade tiers in one visit.

Luck gamepasses such as Lucky, Super Lucky, Ultra Lucky, and More Mutations do not fix a rod that cannot reach. Luck applied to a short cast still samples the same shallow water. Auto Sell and Double Coins only start earning their keep once your catch volume is high.

Best baits for distance: Meadow Bait and Tide Bait

Bait is the cheapest way to stretch a cast beyond what your current rod manages on its own. Equip it before you throw, not mid-run. Meadow Bait is the early option and pairs well with the Bronze Rod, while Tide Bait is the one to save for a rod that is already tuned, since it is what opens deep ocean water.

SetupCast distanceWhat shows up
Bronze Rod + Meadow Bait500+ mHigh-value fish, Mutation Scroll
Full Bronze Rod + stat upgrades695 mSteady mid-tier hauls
Full Bronze Rod, tuned750 mMythical Lucky Chest
Tide Bait1,014+ mDeep ocean water

Those distances are the checkpoint to measure yourself against. If your best throw is stuck well under the number for your current rod, the problem is the hold-and-release timing rather than the upgrade sheet.

Free coins, gifts, and chests before you spend Robux

There is a Free Reward stand on the pier, and claiming it is the single fastest thing a new account can do. It hands over $13,614 coins, which covers the Bronze Rod with change to spare. Gifts you receive are smaller, around 1,000 coins each, but they are free and they stack up.

Group rewards are the other free bucket. Like the experience, favorite it, and join the LazyGames group to collect the gifts listed in-game. Do that before you consider spending Robux on anything.

Chests are the wildcard. A Mythical Lucky Chest can hook on a 750-meter cast and gets reeled in like a fish, then opened from your inventory. One paid out $12,403, which is roughly a quarter of the Full Bronze Rod for a single lucky throw. Quests contribute too, in smaller amounts such as $750 and 150 XP.

Unlocking The Pond and pushing into rarer water

Levelling comes from fishing, including the junk. A Worn Sneaker still counts toward progress, and Level 5 is the gate that makes The Pond available as a destination for $25,000. New water is worth the detour because rarity scales with distance and location rather than with luck purchases.

Once you are consistently past a thousand meters with Tide Bait, the hunt changes shape. Legendary, Mythical, and Secret are rarity tiers with their own badges, separate from the catch-count trophies that tick over at 50, 250, 1,000, 10K, 50K, 100K, 250K, and 500K fish. Mutations are a separate collection layered on top, acting as a value modifier on a catch rather than a rarity of their own.

The order never really changes, it just gets more expensive. Reach water, pull a haul, sell it, buy the next rod, top up the four stats, and only then think about luck. Every session that follows that sequence ends farther out than the one before it, and that distance is what eventually puts a Secret on your line.
