SCROOMS Explained: The Fisch-Inspired Roblox Game About Catching Mushrooms

How catching, instruments, island travel, and Songtreads work in DoniDevs' open-world Roblox project.

How catching, instruments, island travel, and Songtreads work in DoniDevs’ open-world Roblox project.

SCROOMS swaps fishing rods for musical instruments. It is an open-world Roblox adventure from DoniDevs where you explore islands to find, catch, and collect mushroom creatures called Scrooms, then use the money they earn to buy better gear and reach new areas. The loop borrows heavily from Fisch, but the core action is a rhythm challenge rather than a reeling bar.

Quick answer: Play an instrument to start a catch, keep the moving ball inside the target zone to fill the progress bar, and the Scroom is captured. Sell caught Scrooms for currency, spend it on stronger instruments and new regions, and log each one in the Scroomdex.

How catching a Scroom works

Catching is a rhythm-based minigame. When you engage a Scroom, you play an instrument and a ball moves across a track. Your job is to keep that ball inside a target area. Holding it in the zone fills a progress bar, and once the bar is full the Scroom is caught.

Instruments are the equivalent of Fisch’s rods. Each one carries stats that affect how easily you can complete a catch, so upgrading to stronger instruments makes tougher Scrooms more manageable.

Ocarina songs and world events

The Ocarina does more than catch Scrooms. Playing specific note sequences triggers events in the world, such as opening hidden passages or buffing nearby allies. For example, the Song of Passage opens a concealed stone door.

Traveling between islands with the Eversong and Well of Light

There are no boats here. To move between islands, speak to the Maestro NPC to enter a realm called the Eversong, then jump into a Well of Light to reach a different island. This replaces the traditional travel systems used in similar games.

Songtreads movement upgrades

Instead of mounts, you equip boots called Songtreads. As you upgrade them through quests, they unlock stronger movement options. Expect speed boosts, double jumps, and gliding as the boots improve, which changes how you cross and explore each island.

Progression, the Scroomdex, and Mutations

The economy runs on selling what you catch. Caught Scrooms are sold for currency, which you use to buy stronger instruments and unlock new regions. Every Scroom you find is recorded in the Scroomdex, a registry that completionists can aim to finish.

Some Scrooms spawn as rare Mutations. A Mutation changes the creature’s appearance and significantly raises its coin value, making mutated catches the high-payout targets.

Release window and how to follow updates

SCROOMS is planned for release in August 2026. No official day-and-time launch has been confirmed. The game is being built by DoniDevs, whose gameplay clips have shown features such as a frequency-tuning minigame, a miner mushroom NPC, and animated dancing mushrooms.

Community tester applications ran through the game’s Discord and closed on August 7. For sneak peeks, creature designs, and future update news, the official hub is the SCROOMS Discord server. That is the most reliable place to watch for a confirmed launch date as the August window plays out.
