New Ground is the first side quest you can pick up inside the Bluestone Caverns in SCROOMS. Marina asks you to bring her a single Fungstone, which the cavern crew uses to filter quarry dust. The quest is short, but the hand-in has one catch that stops people cold: the scroom has to be held on your character, not just sitting in your backpack.
Quick answer: Catch a Fungstone in the Bluestone Caverns, open your backpack with G, click the Fungstone tile to hold it, then talk to Marina and pick Hand over the Fungstone.
Where to find Marina in the Bluestone Caverns
Marina sits a few steps in from the cave mouth, right where you land when you drop into the Bluestone Caverns. She is on a bench beside a wooden table, wears a yellow hard hat, and has a “?” floating over her head. Walk up until the E Talk / Marina prompt appears.

If a response won’t react to a click, right-click once to disable camera control. When it’s active, you’ll see the notice “Camera Control Enabled – Right click to toggle”.

Press E to talk to Marina. She greets you and works through a short exchange before asking for the scroom. Keep picking the top reply to move it along:
- “Hey! You new down here?” — pick “Just got here.”
- “Thought so. Welcome to Bluestone Caverns!” — pick “What do you do here?”
- “Bit of everything. Mostly keeping the place from falling apart.” — pick “Sounds fun.”
- “It isn’t. Actually, you mind helping me with something?” — pick “What do you need?”
She then asks for the item outright: “A Fungstone. We use their caps to filter out quarry dust. Bring me one, would you?” Choose “Sure. I’ll find one.” to accept. Picking “Maybe later” backs out.

A “Quest Started: New Ground” banner appears, and the objective tracker shows “Catch and give Marina a Fungstone. (0/1)”. In your Quest Log it lands under Side Quests.

Catch a Fungstone
Look for the Fungstone in the Bluestone Caverns; this Common scroom has a grey cap marked with white spots. There’s no need to search elsewhere for one. Play a song beside Marina, right where you are, to catch it. The first song produced “You caught: Fungstone! Frequency: 81.9 Hz”, and the tracker advanced to (1/1).
Catching it does not finish the quest on its own. If you talk to Marina now with the Fungstone only sitting in your backpack, she says “No Fungstone yet?” and your single reply is “Still looking.” — even though the tracker reads (1/1).

Hold the Fungstone, then hand it over
The step people miss is that Marina only accepts the Fungstone when it is held on your character. You need to equip it out of the backpack first.

Expect the same rule in other “catch and give” quests in SCROOMS. If a quest giver insists you don’t have the scroom, equip it from the backpack before talking to them.
Rewards and how to confirm it worked
When the hand-in registers, a “Quest Completed: New Ground” banner shows and your rewards are paid out immediately.
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| XP | 420 |
| Chimes | 130 |
You can verify the payout by watching your Chimes counter rise by 130. Ours climbed from 11,635 to 11,765. The level stayed at 34 after the XP was applied. If the completion banner shows and your Chimes went up, New Ground is done.
