SCROOMS starts you in Songkeeper’s Grove, the forested tutorial zone where you tame mushroom creatures by matching their frequency with an instrument. A small cast of characters lives here, and each one either hands you something, buys from you, sends you on a quest, or simply ignores you until you level up. Knowing who does what saves you a lot of wandering before the path opens toward Bluestone Approach.

Quick answer: The NPCs you meet first in Songkeeper’s Grove are Leo, Julian, Halden, Jones, Elanor, Songwalker Shax and Oswald, plus five Weathered Statues you visit for Halden’s Ocarina quest.

Leo

Julian

Julian works from a wooden stall and greets you with “Hey, friend! How may I help you?” He serves as both your buyer and shopkeeper. Choose from “Sell Held” or “Sell Inventory”.

Sell your catches to receive Chimes, the game’s currency, shown as a note symbol in the lower-right corner of the screen. Julian quotes a total before you agree; a single early Bluebell brought the offer “Hmm… I’ll give you a total of 62 Chimes for all your scrooms.” Choose “1. Deal!” to sell or “2. Never mind…” to keep them.

Halden gives you “The Next Step.” The objective asks you to “Find five weathered statues in the grove. Pay your respects and they shall answer.” Halden tells you, “Listen to their notes and return. Then I’ll know you’re ready to carry an ocarina!”

The five Weathered Statues

Each Weathered Statue has a “Pay Respects” prompt; walk up and interact. The objective “Pay respects at the grove statues. (x/5)” counts each one you visit.

The counter reads 5/5 once all statues are done, so you do not have to track them by memory.

Returning for the Ocarina

Return to Halden at the campfire once the statue count is at 5/5.
Pick the “[Accept the gift]” option. Halden says, “All five? Hah! As promised… here, take my ocarina. It’s of little use to an old man like me anymore!”
You get the Ocarina along with the “Magic Melody” badge. It appears in hotbar slot 5, with the use described as “Used to: Channel the song to interact with the world!”

Catching scrooms for Leo and Julian

Julian buys Scrooms. Catching is a frequency mini-game, and it is worth knowing before you talk to either of them.

Equip your instrument and approach a wild scroom to start the catch. The tuning gauge comes first and rates your hit “Good!” or “Perfect!”.
Hold the tuning control and move the frequency slider to match the scroom’s waveform. Each scroom sits at its own frequency, so you are hunting for the right pitch each time.
