Michael’s kit in Halloween leans heavily on stalking, which works well against NPC residents and poorly against real players who keep their distance and keep moving. Shadow Strike is the ability that closes that gap. It is a thrown shadow knife that blinds and slows whoever it hits, and the window it opens is just long enough to convert a chase into a kill.
Quick answer: Reach level 25, equip Shadow Strike from the abilities menu with the A button, then aim and throw the shadow knife at a civilian. The blind lasts roughly two seconds on a player, which is enough time to follow up with a hatchet throw or close the distance for a grab.
Shadow Strike: what the ability does
The in-game description is short and accurate. Shadow Strike lets you “Aim and throw a shadow knife that slows and causes temporary blindness to the victim him, giving a perfect opening to move or strike.” The two effects stack in your favor, since a blinded target cannot see where you are moving and a slowed target cannot outrun you while it wears off.
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Level 25 on Michael |
| Effect on hit | Temporary blindness plus a movement slow |
| Blind duration | Around two seconds against online players |
| Secondary use | Disarms fuse boxes and electrical boxes without breaking them |
| Best follow-up | Hatchet throw or a grab into an execution |
Two seconds sounds short, and it is. Treat the knife as a setup tool rather than a damage tool. The kill comes from what you do immediately after it lands, not from the knife itself.

The blind-then-strike combo against players
Against NPC residents you rarely need the knife. Against player-controlled civilians it is the difference between chasing someone in circles and ending the chase in one exchange.

The same pattern holds when several civilians converge on you, such as fights around a cellar entrance. Blind the one closest to you, deal with them first, and use the slow to keep the rest from peeling you away.

Using the shadow knife on fuse boxes
Shadow Strike has a second job that is easy to miss. Throwing the knife at a fuse box or electrical box disarms it without destroying it. That matters because you can shut down a civilian’s setup while passing through an area, rather than stopping to break it by hand and announcing your position.
Note: the knife is a limited resource in the middle of a chase. If you spend it on a box while a player is nearby, you give up the opening you would otherwise use to close the gap.
Converting a grab into an environmental kill
Once a target is grabbed, nearby objects become execution options. The objective panel tracks the “KILL ALL THE RESIDENTS” goal and lists your special targets, so you always know which names are worth spending a knife on.

| Environment object | Typical location |
|---|---|
| TV | Living rooms |
| Stove | Kitchens |
| Fridge | Kitchens |
| Clock | Interiors |
| Window | House exteriors and upper floors |
| Motorcycle | Driveways and streets |
The practical trick is to blind a target near one of these objects rather than in open ground. The slow gives you time to drag the grab to the object instead of settling for a standard execution.
How to confirm the combo worked
A successful hit is obvious on the target’s side, and on yours it shows up as a civilian who suddenly stops tracking you and slows down. If they keep running clean lines and turning to face you, the knife missed.
The most common reasons the combo fails are simple. You threw from too far out and lost the target before the follow-up, you hesitated and let the two-second blind expire, or you used the knife on a fuse box and had nothing left when a player appeared. Getting downed mid-fight is also recoverable; you can get back up and disengage rather than forcing the trade.
Why Shadow Strike does not solve the hiding problem
Shadow Strike wins fights. It does not find people. Civilians can open their map at the start of a match and see every NPC on it, with special targets marked in gold circles and ordinary residents in blue. A coordinated team races to those targets and tells them to hide before Michael can reach them.
Michael’s gold light markers during Shape Jump only appear once his Bloodthirst level is raised, and a special target sitting in a hiding spot will not produce a beam even at Bloodthirst Tier 3. Hidden targets also do not generate noise pings. Detection Pulse is the counter, but it only highlights occupied buildings without telling you who is inside, and it runs on a cooldown.
The takeaway for your loadout is that Shadow Strike earns its slot as your fight-winning tool, not your search tool. Pair it with a way to locate people, or you will spend the match with a great opening ability and nobody to use it on.

Shadow Strike rewards patience more than aggression. Hold the knife until a civilian is committed to a straight line or standing next to a usable piece of furniture, throw it, and follow up immediately. Used that way, a two-second blind is all the room Michael needs.
