The Dog Ending is the Silent Hill series’ long-running joke finale, and it turns up in both Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill: Townfall. Each one swaps the grim climax for a short, silly cutscene, and neither is available on a first run. You reach them by grabbing specific hidden items in New Game Plus and using them in the right spot, so nothing about how you fought, healed, or explored changes the outcome.
Quick answer: Both need New Game Plus. In Silent Hill 2 Remake, build the Dog Key and open Lakeview Hotel’s Observation Room; in Townfall, deposit the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Coins into their Guide Dog banks.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Dog Ending
This ending is unavailable on your initial run. Beat Silent Hill 2 to unlock New Game Plus; only there can you enter the two buildings containing the key pieces. Begin another game using New Game Plus, then collect each half when you reach its location.
Both Broken Key Parts are missable. Collect each one when you first pass its location rather than planning to backtrack later.

Combine the Dog Key and open the Observation Room
As soon as you unlock the door, a cutscene begins and the remaining boss fights are bypassed. The comedy sequence in place of the finale confirms success: James enters prepared for a confrontation, only to see a headset-wearing Shiba Inu at a row of control panels, suggesting the dog has been directing events throughout Silent Hill. James falls to his knees, receives a lick from the dog, and watches the credits roll to a cheerful song. He speaks Polish in this scene, referencing the 2001 original ending and Bloober Team’s roots. The only reward for reaching this ending is The Goodest Boi trophy.

Townfall also restricts this ending to New Game Plus and grants the Let’s Talk This Out trophy. This time, gather three coins and put each into its corresponding Guide Dogs for the Blind donation bank in one playthrough. Their steps occur in Parts 1, 4, and 6, so you must plan ahead.
| Coin | Where to find it | Where to deposit it |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze Coin | Video Star back room, Part 1 | Guide Dog bank near the Pharmacy on Main Street |
| Silver Coin | Backyard shed in Clara Woods, Part 4 | Guide Dog bank inside the Laundromat |
| Gold Coin | Room 793 in SWDP – Different, Part 6 | Guide Dog bank at the end of the red-lit hallway |

You may see “781” marked on a nearby ledge or desk. That is not the room number — Door 793 is the one you need to open, and nothing forces you to visit it, so it is easy to miss.
Donate all three coins, then finish the game as usual by defeating the final boss. At the pier, approaching Richard causes the Dog ending to play instead of the standard ending otherwise selected by your run, confirming that you met its conditions. The Sci-fi ending grants the Pistol-3000 for later runs; the Dog ending offers no gameplay reward or weapon, only the trophy.
