Silent Hill Townfall: How to Get the Axe

The one-hit-kill melee weapon only appears in New Game Plus, tucked inside a garage east of Shore Wynd.

Melee combat in Silent Hill: Townfall mostly means planks, pipes, bricks, and bottles that snap after a few swings. The Axe is the exception. It kills standard enemies in a single hit, it never breaks, and it turns blocking into a free action instead of a resource you spend. The catch is that it does not exist in a first playthrough.

Quick answer: Finish the game once, start New Game + from the main menu, then head to Shore Wynd in St. Amelia’s Shorefront District – South and open the garage on the right.

Axe unlock requirements in Silent Hill Townfall

The Axe is a New Game Plus item, and that is the only gate on it. Which ending you got does not matter.

  • Complete Silent Hill: Townfall at least once.
  • Start a fresh save using the New Game + option on the main menu.
  • Any ending counts, including the Sci-Fi Ending, which is instead tied to the Pistol-3000.
  • The Axe appears during Part 1: Arrival, so you can grab it within minutes of starting the run.

Axe location at Shore Wynd (Part 1: Arrival)

From the starting area of your New Game Plus run, make your way into St. Amelia’s Shorefront District – South. Pull up the map if you need a bearing; Shore Wynd is the marker you are aiming for.
Pass through the white gate at Shore Wynd to reach a walkway overlooking a misty brick courtyard bordered by storage sheds and garage doors.
Take the stairs down into the alley and follow the row of brick storage units on your right. The one you want sits next to a parked bicycle, and its door is usually already open. If it is shut, there is an interaction prompt to open it.
Step inside the red-lit room. The Axe rests on a small table under the light, with a garden gnome sitting beside it. Use the collect prompt to take it.

The same garage is where the Pistol-3000 shows up, but only if you finished the Sci-Fi Ending first. If you only see the Axe there, that requirement has not been met yet.

Second Axe location as Zoe (Part 2)

If you skipped the garage or lost the first one, a second Axe turns up later in the same New Game Plus run. While you are playing as Zoe, head for Mister Stewart’s house and check the neighbouring property. The Axe is in the back garden next to it, propped against a wooden shed by the fence line.

It behaves exactly like the first one. There is no reason to pick up both beyond convenience, since the weapon never degrades.

How the Axe changes combat

Every other melee option in St. Amelia is disposable. Planks and pipes chip away with each swing and each blocked attack, which pushes you into conserving them or avoiding fights entirely. The Axe removes that maths completely with infinite durability, so you can hold block through an encounter and still swing without worrying about the weapon splintering.

Damage-wise it puts standard enemies down in one strike, putting it in the same league as the Flare Gun and Shotgun without spending ammunition. Once equipped, the on-screen prompts switch to a strike input and a hold-to-block input, and both stay available indefinitely.

The one-hit kill applies to standard enemies. The big guy is not covered by it, so do not walk into that fight expecting a single swing to finish things.

Confirming you picked up the Axe

Two things tell you it worked. The Axe appears in your hands with the strike and block prompts on screen, and the Here’s Simon trophy pops the moment you collect it. If no trophy fires and the table in the garage is empty apart from the gnome, you are almost certainly in a standard playthrough rather than a New Game Plus save.

From that point the weapon simply stays with you, which makes a second run noticeably faster than the first. Grabbing it during Part 1 is the cleanest approach, since the Shore Wynd garage sits close to where the run begins and the detour costs almost nothing.
