Silent Hill: Townfall: How to Get the Pistol from Richard’s Gift

Where both firearms appear in St. Amelia, what unlocks each one, and how to confirm the pickup registered.

Simon Ordell spends the early hours of Silent Hill: Townfall hitting things with planks and pipes. Two guns change that, and they sit at opposite ends of the game. The first is a plain revolver handed to you during the story. The second is the Pistol-3000, a future-tech ray gun with infinite ammo that only exists in New Game Plus.

Quick answer: The Pistol waits in a box in Town Square after the Medical Center section with Dr. Glenn. The Pistol-3000 sits in a garage east of Shore Wynd, unlocked only after the Sci-Fi ending.

They are not alternatives. One is a scarce, four-round revolver you rely on for an entire first run. The other vaporizes anything it touches and never runs dry.

Richard’s Gift pistol location in Town Square

The box only appears after a specific story beat, so there is no point sweeping St. Amelia for it early. In Part 2: Zoe, push forward to the Medical Center and report to Dr. Glenn. When that cutscene ends, control switches back to Simon at the Clinic, picking up where he left off after the Scales puzzle.

Once Simon is under your control again, go out from the Clinic and make your way along the street to the fog-filled Town Square. You do not need to complete anything beforehand.
Walk up to the wooden box sitting out in the open. It is not tucked in a side room or behind a lock, so there is no searching involved. Interacting with it asks whether you want to open it.
Answer “Yes.” Opening the lid reveals a note that says “Simon, You’ll need this,” along with a revolver and loose bullets beneath it.

Refusing the box means the weapon will not be granted afterward. Accept it to add the Pistol to your inventory.

Simon sighs, says “Okay,” and lifts the revolver out. He holds it in both hands while the cutscene plays, and then the town turns over. Sirens go off, red fog floods the square, and Simon stops in front of a banner reading “WHATEVER HEART THIS TOWN HAD HAS STOPPED.” There is no loading break between the pickup and the shift.

Ranged Weapons controls and starting ammo

The camera drops into first person, Simon checks the weapon, and the Ranged Weapons tutorial opens. These are the PlayStation 5 prompts it displays.

Inside the box are four rounds, which make up your complete initial supply. You can find additional Pistol Rounds while searching St. Amelia, but ammunition remains limited throughout, preventing the revolver from becoming the standard solution for encounters.

How to confirm the Pistol registered

Three signals tell you the pickup landed.

  • On-screen pickup text flashes + Pistol and + Pistol Round.
  • An ammo readout showing 0/4 appears during the first-person weapon check.
  • The Ranged Weapons tutorial screen opens.

If the tutorial popup displayed, you now have the weapon. Press Cross to close it, returning control to Simon with the revolver equipped; he keeps it for the rest of the run.

When to fire the revolver in St. Amelia

Standard enemies drop to roughly two accurate headshots. That sounds workable until you remember the four-bullet cushion. Body shots burn the supply for nothing, so aim high or leave the gun holstered.

Shots make enough noise to draw nearby monsters, potentially turning one manageable foe into three. In most situations, opening with Simon’s handheld CRTV is wiser: it marks unseen threats and allows you to go around them without using a round.

Pistol-3000 location in Shorefront South (New Game Plus)

The Pistol-3000 is the strongest weapon in the game by a wide margin. It has infinite ammo and one-shots enemies by vaporizing them, which makes it the obvious pick for a speedrun attempt. Getting it takes two full playthroughs.

Get the Sci-Fi ending first

The gun only unlocks in New Game Plus after you finish the game with the Sci-Fi ending. That ending has its own requirements.

  • Solve the room door puzzle at the Hotel in the Otherworld.
  • Find the Strange Book in Shorefront South.
  • Find the Strange Book in Clara Woods.
  • Find the Strange Book in SWDP – Different.

Once that ending is on your save, the Pistol-3000 becomes available across every New Game Plus playthrough.

Find the garage east of Shore Wynd

During a New Game Plus run, enter the Shorefront South District and continue east of Shore Wynd until you find the garages. A door on the right is openable this time, leading to a small room with an eerie green glow. The Pistol-3000 is inside.

Picking it up awards the Future Hardware trophy, which doubles as confirmation that the weapon is in your inventory.

The Boardroom pickup as Richard

There is a second way to reach it. Playing as Richard, the Pistol-3000 can also be collected after you enter the Boardroom.

The gap between the two weapons is the point. A first run is built around counting four bullets and deciding whether hiding is cheaper than shooting. A New Game Plus run with the ray gun removes that math entirely, which is exactly why the game holds it back until you have already earned one of its stranger endings.
