Slayers 2: How to Unlock the Soryu Fighting Style

Demon-only Soryu needs fishing, a hidden underwater scroll, and a trainee fight before Bone Breaker and Face Breaker are yours.

Demon-only Soryu needs fishing, a hidden underwater scroll, and a trainee fight before Bone Breaker and Face Breaker are yours.

Soryu is the Demon-locked fighting style in Slayers 2, and it is the one Akaza-flavored martial art that Slayers can never touch. Unlocking it is less about combat skill and more about paperwork: you need the right race, the right level, a fishing permit you should have picked up 20 levels earlier, and a trainer tucked under a bridge in Mistfall Harbor.

Quick answer: As a Demon with fishing unlocked, talk to Soryu Expert Kazuma in Mistfall Harbor and finish The Soryu Trial — 20 Common Fish, the Soryu Scroll, 8,000 fist M1 damage, and Soryu Trainee Goki.

Soryu requirements before you start the trial

Kazuma will not hand over a single line of quest dialogue until three boxes are ticked. All three are things you can sort out well before you make the trip, and the fishing one is the step that traps most players mid-quest.

  • Demon race. Soryu is exclusive to Demons — Slayers get Tai Chi from a different trainer instead.
  • Level 62 minimum. If Kazuma still refuses the quest, keep leveling toward 65 before trying again.
  • Fishing unlocked. One of the four objectives is a fishing task, so the permit is mandatory.

How to unlock fishing for the Soryu trial

Fishing opens up at Level 45, long before Soryu is relevant, and it takes only a few minutes. Do it first so you are not sprinting back across the map with a quest tracker sitting at 0/20.

Head to Mistfall Docks and find Dock Master Sofen. He is the NPC who handles everything fishing-related.
Accept and complete the Fishing Permit quest from Sofen. This is what actually flags fishing as unlocked on your character.
Buy a basic fishing rod and basic bait. Common-rarity fish are exactly what the trial asks for, so there is no reason to spend on better bait.

Soryu Expert Kazuma location in Mistfall Harbor

Start from the Bamboo Grove spawn and ride northeast, crossing the bridge into Mistfall Harbor. The area you want shows on the map as Seasons Crossing, where a bridge is lined with platforms and a small waterfront structure sits beneath it.

Kazuma is stationed on the roof of that building, reachable by climbing up from the platforms or dropping into the shack area under the bridge. Interact with him to begin The Soryu Trial.

The Soryu Trial objectives

The quest has four requirements, and they can be completed in any order. None of them are timed.

How to complete each Soryu Trial objective

Catch 20 Common Fish

Equip the basic fishing rod and stand on the wooden dock steps below Kazuma, casting straight into the harbor water. Each catch triggers a short mini-game where you time the moving bar, and only Common rarity counts toward the 20. Basic bait is all you need, since rarer bait only pushes you toward fish the quest ignores.

Once you have the full stack, climb back up and talk to Kazuma to hand the fish over. The objective does not clear on the boat — the delivery is what marks it complete.

Find the Soryu Scroll

From Kazuma’s rooftop, jump straight down into the water beneath the water wheel. Swim under the waterfall directly below the bridge and you will pass into a hidden flooded cave.

Inside, look along the submerged floor and toward the back corner near the barrels. The scroll glows and gives you a [T] Soryu Scroll Pick Up prompt, usually surrounded by small blue bubbles. Grabbing it instantly completes the objective, so there is nothing to carry back.

Deal 8,000 fist M1 damage

This one only counts unarmed hits. Open your inventory, switch to the basic fist stance under the Combat category, and put your weapon away entirely — sword damage adds nothing to the counter.

Then find anything that fights back and start swinging basic M1 strikes. Enemies around the harbor and Shinora work fine. The tracker ticks up in real time, so you can see exactly how far off the 8,000 you are.

Defeat Soryu Trainee Goki

Goki hides in Veilfall Cavern, behind a second waterfall east of the one guarding the scroll and slightly lower down. Drop from Kazuma’s platform, follow the water east, and push through the falls to find the cave entrance.

He is a real fight rather than a scripted pushover. Bait his attacks, counter between them, and keep an eye on the demons wandering the cavern, because pulling extras while Goki is mid-combo is the usual reason a run ends early. Kill him and the trial finishes on the spot.

How to equip Soryu and confirm the unlock

When Goki goes down, the quest closes out and the Fighting Style Soryu lands in your inventory. Open your inventory, switch to the Combat category, and equip it there — it sits alongside the basic fist stance and shows its own description and damage stat.

If the style is equipped correctly, your unarmed moveset changes immediately and Bone Breaker becomes available on Z. That swap is the confirmation the unlock went through.

Soryu skills: Bone Breaker and Face Breaker

Bone Breaker comes with the style and sits on Z. It is a counter that reads an incoming attack, deflects it, and throws the attacker into a ragdoll state, which leaves a clean window for M1s or a follow-up skill. Against aggressive demons that open with a rush, it effectively punishes them for pressing first.

Face Breaker is not automatic. It is a random drop from Soryu Trainee Goki, so you will be running the cavern fight repeatedly to get it, which doubles as a way to push your Soryu Mastery up toward 14. The move dashes at a target, slams them into the ground, and leaves them there long enough to chain into another attack.

Together they give Soryu a straightforward loop: counter with Bone Breaker when an enemy commits, close the gap with Face Breaker when they back off, and fill the gaps with M1s. It is a close-range kit, so keep your distance management in mind rather than expecting a ranged option to bail you out — and remember you can only carry one fighting style at a time, so switching later means running another trainer’s trial from scratch.
