The latest round of changes to Star Wars Droid Tycoon in Fortnite pushes back the New Variant Event, brings back the Protocol Droid Event as a replacement, and makes world missions far less demanding. Two long-running bugs, one affecting crafting speed and one affecting health regeneration, have also been fixed, and the Nova Shop‘s Pickaxe Mastery upgrade now runs deeper than before.
Quick answer: The New Variant Event has moved to Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM. In its place, the Protocol Droid Event is rerunning with buffed world missions that make four-star completions much easier.

New Variant Event delayed: New date and reason
The New Variant Weekend has slipped by one week. It is now scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM, and the delay was a deliberate call rather than a technical failure.
World Missions are now a permanent part of the mode instead of a temporary event feature. The developers wanted more time to tune mission rewards and mechanics based on community and internal feedback before layering a variant-focused weekend on top of them, so the variant event was moved back and the World Mission and Protocol Droid content was rerun instead.

World mission buffs: Four stars solo and better rewards
The biggest practical change is how much easier it now is to earn a four-star rating on a world mission. Objectives such as MINE ROCKS have had their thresholds loosened, so the top rating is reachable without an ideal group.

Previously, hitting four stars in practice meant running a full squad with specific droids equipped between you. That requirement is gone. A solo player can now complete a four-star world mission without coordinating with anyone else.
Reward quality has moved with it. Mission payouts are no longer limited to basic SA-5s and gold TDAs, so higher-tier drops are in the pool for strong runs.
DJ R-3X companion: 2x World Mission Progress
World missions still run on a 45-minute timer. The way to cut that down is the DJ R-3X companion, which carries a passive that doubles how fast mission progress accumulates.

Nova Shop update: Pickaxe Mastery now goes to 13 levels
Pickaxe Mastery sits in the Nova Shop’s core upgrades alongside Max Health, Damage, Credits, Flawless Charm, Movement Speed, Jawa Bartering, and Double Daily Quests. It has been extended from ten levels to 13 total levels, giving long-term players three more ranks to buy into with Nova Crystals.
The upgrade controls how much progress survives a reset. At its higher ranks, the description reads “Keep 17 – 19 pickaxe levels when you Super Rebirth,” so the extra levels directly reduce how much mining power you lose each time you reset.

Bug fixes: Crafting speed and health regeneration
- Crafting speed no longer calculates incorrectly for droid companions and protocol droids.
- Player health regeneration works again after taking damage.
The crafting fix matters most if you were stacking companions for speed and seeing no benefit. With the calculation corrected, stations at the Gonk, B1 Battle, R3, Opti-Pod, and Vect-Arm droids finish at the rates their stats advertise.
How to confirm the update applied
Three checks confirm you are on the current version. In the world, the Protocol Droid Event banner and its countdown timer should be visible and ticking. In the Nova Shop, Pickaxe Mastery should show 13 ranks rather than 10. And after taking damage, your health bar should refill on its own instead of staying flat.
If all three line up, the buffed world missions are live for you, and a solo four-star run with DJ R-3X equipped is the most efficient use of the Protocol Droid Event window before the New Variant Event arrives on September 26.
