Star Wars Zero Company: How to Unlock All Three Den Build Slots

The three Den build slots come from story progress, Zone Dorn influence, and one Critical Operation around Cycle 13.

The three Den build slots come from story progress, Zone Dorn influence, and one Critical Operation around Cycle 13.

Build slots decide how many Den upgrades you can research at the same time in Star Wars Zero Company. Every facility, crew, and weapon improvement occupies a slot for its full construction time, so having more of them lets you run several projects in parallel instead of waiting for one to finish. There are three slots in total, and each one comes from a different source.

Quick answer: Slot 1 unlocks automatically during Cycle 4 when the Den is introduced, Slot 2 unlocks when you reach Tier 3 influence with Zone Dorn, and Slot 3 unlocks after completing the Critical Operation “A Dark Shadow” that appears on the Holotable around Cycle 13.

All three Den build slots and how to unlock them

Build slotSourceRequirement
Slot 1StoryGranted during Cycle 4 when the Den system unlocks; cannot be missed
Slot 2InfluenceReach Tier 3 in Zone Dorn
Slot 3CampaignComplete the Critical Operation “A Dark Shadow” (around Cycle 13)

You start with the first slot handed to you as part of normal progress, so there is nothing to chase there. The other two require deliberate effort, and Slot 2 in particular can be pushed forward early if you focus your influence gains.

Unlock Slot 2 by reaching Tier 3 in Zone Dorn

The second build slot is tied to influence rather than story beats. Each zone has three tiers, and filling all three in Zone Dorn awards the extra build slot as its reward. This is the slot you have the most control over, since you decide where to spend your influence-building effort.

Open the Holotable in the Command Center and check the Influence menu to see your current tier in Zone Dorn.
Raise Zone Dorn influence by completing Operations there and spending Contacts in that zone. Both actions push the tier upward.
Keep funneling influence into Zone Dorn until it hits Tier 3. The build slot is granted the moment that tier fills.

Reaching Tier 3 can take a while if you spread your influence across many zones, but concentrating on Zone Dorn lets you rush the reward fairly early. The Networking Den upgrade, which adds extra influence per Contact used, speeds this up if you have a spare slot for it.

Unlock Slot 3 through the “A Dark Shadow” Critical Operation

The third slot is locked behind campaign progress. It becomes available after you finish the Critical Operation “A Dark Shadow,” which shows up on the Holotable at roughly Cycle 13. There is no way to grab this one early, so it naturally arrives once you have advanced far enough into the story.

Continue the main story until the Critical Operation appears in the Missions list on the Holotable.
Start and complete “A Dark Shadow.” Finishing it grants the third and final build slot.

How to confirm a build slot unlocked

Open the Upgrade station in the Den and start an upgrade. If a slot is free, you will be able to queue another improvement while the first is still under construction. When all your slots are occupied, the menu blocks you from starting anything new until one finishes, which is the clearest sign of how many you currently hold.

What build slots actually gate

A build slot only controls how many upgrades can run at once. It does not remove the other costs attached to each project. Every Den upgrade still needs its own resources and, in most cases, a minimum Den level.

RequirementWhat it does
CyclesThe in-game days an upgrade takes to complete; every upgrade costs at least one
CreditsThe main currency, earned from Operations and Missions
CapacitorsNeeded for higher-tier upgrades; earned from Operations, Missions, and zone influence rewards
Den levelA minimum facility level gates each upgrade tier; raised through Operations, Missions, and influence rewards

Upgrades within a tier are also sequential, so you cannot skip ahead to a later level without buying every earlier one in that line first. Even with all three slots open, credits tend to be the real bottleneck, so it is worth prioritizing a handful of high-value upgrades rather than trying to build everything the moment a slot frees up.
