Mounts arrived in Steal an Egg with Update 8, letting you ride any pet you already own instead of running between biomes on foot. To turn a pet into a mount you need a Mount Star, also called a Shooting Star. You can buy one with Robux, but the free route is the night-time Star Drop event, where a star falls for every eligible player in the server.
Quick answer: Stay in one server from the start of an in-game day, wait for the rare night-time Star Drop event, then find the Shooting Star that spawns for you on the map and carry it back to base.
Get a free Mount Star from the Star Drop event
The Star Drop event, sometimes shown as Starfall, has a small chance to trigger during each in-game night. It is random, so no single night guarantees a star. When it does fire, a separate star spawns for every eligible player, so there is no competition and nobody can take yours.
Each server gets the event randomly, with no known method to trigger an immediate spawn. If a whole night goes by without one, remain on that server and wait through another complete cycle.
Buy Mount Stars from the Star Handler at spawn
If you would rather not wait, the Star Handler NPC stands near the spawn area. Walk up to it and choose View Stars to open the shop. A yellow pulsing ring on the ground marks where the NPC stands.

The shop sells bundles of one, three, or five stars, and the five-star pack is marked as the best value. The weekly stock is capped at five stars, with a restock timer shown directly in the menu.
| Bundle | Robux price |
|---|---|
| 1 Star | 360 |
| 3 Stars | 810 |
| 5 Stars (best value) | 1,260 |

Robux prices have been reported differently across servers, so check the amount shown in your own shop before you confirm a purchase. The weekly five-star limit applies to bought stars, not to free event drops.
Turn a pet into a mount
A single Shooting Star changes one pet and is consumed when you use it. Since the change can’t be reversed, choose a pet you intend to keep.
The star disappearing and the pet changing form confirm the conversion. Open the equipped-pets panel, locate that pet, and press its green Ride button to mount it. Use the dismount control when you want to get off. It can remain in your pen and continue earning money as usual.
Riding mounts in the racing event
The same update added a racing event where you ride through an obstacle track while a giant boss monster chases you. Obstacles like tentacles, fire, and eggs slow you down, and reaching the Safe Zone at the finish line secures your run.

Different mounts have different turning radiuses, and mounts generally carry a wide turning circle, so begin each turn early to stay on the track. Pick a pet you genuinely enjoy riding, since the star you spend on it cannot be recovered and moved to another creature later.
