Steal an Egg Progression Guide: How to Go From Noob to Pro

Every wall you hit in Steal an Egg is a speed wall. The loop never changes — steal an egg from a guarded nest, outrun the guardian back to your base, hatch it into a pet, collect passive cash, reinvest — but each new biome demands a higher Speed stat before the run is survivable. Progression is just the order in which you raise that number.

Quick answer: Claim the free +10,000 Speed from the rewards terminal at spawn, unlock the treadmill with your first $1,000, then alternate treadmill upgrades with the best trail you can afford — and never enter a biome until your Speed is roughly 20% above its stated minimum, because egg weight slows you down mid-run.

Speed requirements for every biome

Biomes are gated by a minimum Speed shown at the entrance. That number covers your base movement only — it does not account for the weight of the egg you pick up. A large egg can cut your movement by 20% or more, which is why players who exactly meet a requirement still get run down halfway home. Treat the buffer column as the real entry price.

Cherry Blossom and Titan Temple sit past Cosmic in the area list, and both are flagged as endgame zones. No confirmed Speed minimums exist for them, so plan around Cosmic as your practical ceiling until you can clear it comfortably.

First session: free speed, first egg, first pet

An alternative early source of value, if the server is busy, is watching the safe zone. Faster players hauling high-tier eggs back can be robbed before they reach their pen, and a stolen Snow or Volcano egg is worth dozens of Forest runs.

Treadmill and trails: the two speed engines

The treadmill is unlocked with a $1,000 base upgrade and is the permanent source of Speed. Standing on it generates Speed over time, and each upgrade level raises the gain per tick. Upgrading it is the highest-priority purchase in the game until you reach Volcano — a low-level treadmill is the reason training feels endless. Later upgrades get expensive, with one tier costing 50T Speed, and a Robux option doubles the treadmill multiplier from x128 to x256.

Ten minutes of AFK treadmill time before pushing a new biome is a reasonable rhythm. Park your avatar, let the Speed build, then test the next zone.

Trails look cosmetic but are flat multipliers on your Speed, and they are the second priority after the treadmill. Buy the best one you can afford every time the Trail Shop is within reach, because the multiplier compounds with everything the treadmill earns you.

Tip: Server hopping until you are the fastest player present is worth doing once your Speed is respectable. Being fastest means the best eggs on the map are yours by default, including anything another player drops.

Pet income: judge by cash per second, not rarity

Pets fund everything, and the only stat that matters when deciding what to keep is $/s. A Rare pet from Volcano out-earns a Legendary from the Forest by orders of magnitude, so rarity colors are a poor filter. The scale of the gap is severe — a Forest Chicken produces $1/s, a Cosmic King Mammoth produces $400K/s, and the Divine Shattered Colossus tops the index at $3.5B/s.

Two copies of the same pet can earn different amounts depending on size and mutation, so check both before you clear a slot. Use the Equip Best option instead of picking manually — the game optimizes your active roster faster and more accurately than eyeballing it. Upgrade your pen whenever income allows, since more slots directly means more cash per second.

Duplicates go to the Fuse Machine. Three identical pets combine into one higher-tier version that earns more and frees two slots. Pets you no longer need go to the Sell stand instead, and the payouts at the top end are enormous — a 20,797kg Whale Shark sells for $14.3B, enough to clear several upgrade tiers in one transaction.

The Rift and Boss Shop: spending Boss Tokens

Boss events award Boss Tokens, which are spent inside The Rift portal at the Boss Shop. Everything there is temporary, so buy boosters immediately before an active push rather than sitting on them. The 2x Treadmill Booster pairs well with a planned AFK training block; the 2x Cash Booster is best saved for a stretch where you are actively hatching and selling.

Boss Mastery tracks kills separately and pays out permanent rewards: a Riftborn Egg at 3 kills, a Permanent Token Boost at 5, and a Riftbeasts Egg at 10. The Riftbeasts gacha banner in the same area is not worth pulling early — token income is better spent on boosters until your base is producing serious cash.

Why you keep getting caught

Losing an egg costs you the run and nothing else — you respawn at base and can immediately go again — but at high tiers those losses hurt. Where the guardian catches you tells you exactly what to fix.

Watch the chat during egg resets. Secret Egg spawns are announced there, and the eggs that appear contain some of the highest-earning pets in the index. If you are already among the fastest on the server, you have a real chance of reaching one before anyone reacts.

The whole game rewards patience over greed. Players who stall out are almost always the ones reaching for the biggest egg in a zone they barely qualify for, losing it, and repeating. Keep the treadmill leveled, keep the best available trail equipped, cut your weakest earners the moment a better pet appears, and the biomes open in order without much drama.
