The Observatory sits roughly 1,100 meters east of the Lifepod, deep inside the Alien Ruins biome of Subnautica 2. Reaching the pedestal is easy enough, but the Axum Gate stays sealed until you unlock a specific Adaptation, repair an alien turbine, and restore power through two control rooms above and below the structure.
Quick answer: Unlock the Axum Vision Adaptation, lower and repair the alien turbine with 10 Titanium Ingots, 10 Strontium, and 10 Mangalloy Ingots, then align the symbol panels in the upper control room to power the Observatory door.

What you need before heading to the Observatory
The trip crosses geothermal zones and Leviathan-patrolled water, so you want the Tadpole properly outfitted before committing. The Collector Leviathan can show up along the eastern route, and the turbine puzzle locks behind two specific upgrades you should already have built.
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Tadpole with Depth Module | Reaches the Alien Ruins depth and the lower control room near 370 m. |
| Bioscanner upgrade | Scans the damaged turbine to reveal the repair recipe. |
| Feedback Resonator upgrade | Destroys Bloom Cankers from range; required for the Axum Vision Adaptation. |
| Repair Tool | Applies materials to the turbine propellers. |
| Processor access | Refines Titanium, Strontium, and Mangalloy ingots. |
Unlock the Axum Vision Adaptation
The terminals around the Observatory are unreadable until your character can interpret Axum glyphs. That ability comes from a specific Angel Comb tied to the Alien Ruins, reached by clearing Bloom infestation along its purple tendrils.
Step 1: Swim to the open area past the abandoned base and locate the Angel Comb directly under the massive turbine. Follow the purple tendrils outward to map the infestation branches.

Step 2: Take the first branch into the ravine and the cavern below the Alien Ruins base. Use the Feedback Resonator to pop the Bloom Cankers from a distance, since they close up when you get too near.
Step 3: Follow the other branch toward the Metal Farms pool, then ascend to the plateaus and enter the Cicada Wreck (Stairway to Heaven). Break the bloom web, drop into the chamber below, and destroy the Cankers inside. Oxygen Tunics in the wreck keeps you alive during the dive.
Step 4: Return to the mother Angel Comb and clear the final two Cankers around it. Interact with the exposed pink core to gain Axum Vision.

Lower the alien turbine
With Axum Vision active, the cliffside terminals become usable. The lower control room, sometimes labeled the Axum Control Center, sits around 370 meters depth, directly below the upper room. Swim above the mother Angel Comb and look up for the greenish glow to spot it.
Step 1: Enter the lower control room and press the main terminal button. The damaged turbine assembly drops down so you can reach the propellers.
Step 2: Swim up to the propeller hub and look for the colonist crates nearby. Picking up the databank entry labeled Turbine Repair Plan confirms you are in the right spot.
Step 3: Scan the damaged propeller with the Bioscanner, then switch to the Repair Tool to view the exact material list.

Repair materials and how to make them
Repairs require three refined stacks, all produced at a Processor. This is the biggest single resource pull in the current Early Access build, so haul space and Tadpole storage matter.
| Repair component | Quantity | Raw materials |
|---|---|---|
| Titanium Ingot | 10 | 30 Titanium |
| Strontium | 10 | 20 Celestine |
| Mangalloy Ingot | 10 | 10 Titanium Ingots, 10 Atacamite, 10 Troilite |
Atacamite appears as dark crystal nodes on the Alien Ruins seabed. Troilite is the dark green mineral cluster found near the Metal Farms pool. Plan multiple Tadpole runs, especially for Troilite, since the route passes hostile fauna.
Once you have all three stacks, return to the lowered propeller and use the Repair Tool to complete the build.

Restore power from the lower control room
After the propeller is whole, head back down to the lower control room and interact with the terminal again. A confirmation appears stating that hot water is flowing back into the turbine and the system is ready for activation. This is the cue to move up to the upper control room.
Align the upper control room panels
The upper control room sits directly above the lower one along the cliff. Inside, three panels control turbine activation. Two are mounted on the left and right walls, and a central console finishes the sequence.
Step 1: Approach the left-hand terminal and rotate each dial until its symbol lines up with the yellow arrow notch. Correctly placed symbols turn green.

Step 2: Repeat the same alignment on the right-hand terminal. Both side panels need every symbol green before the activation switch responds.
Step 3: Press the claw-shaped switch on each side panel to lock in the alignment, then move to the central console and press its main switch.
The turbine spins up, lighting floods the surrounding ruins, and ambient music shifts. That visual and audio change is the confirmation that power has been restored across the entire Alien Ruins sector.
Scan the Rosetta Stone and open the Axum Gate
Power alone does not open the Observatory. With the structure now lit, swim to the Alien Ruins area and locate the Rosetta Stone. Scanning it with the Bioscanner completes the language progression and flags the Observatory entrance as interactable.
Return to the Observatory pedestal and interact with the Axum Gate. The door opens into the inner chamber.

Inside the Observatory
The interior holds an Orrery you can scan for additional PDA lore on the Axum planetary system. Swimming through the gap past the orrery reveals a second lever. Pulling it triggers a hologram referencing Xanadu, a region across the Great Trench, and warns about deep-water creatures called Crypters.
That sequence currently marks the end of the main Early Access story beat. Further biomes and structures are planned as updates roll out, but powering the Observatory is the final unlock available in the build right now.
