Subwayne Old Gotham South Puzzle Solution (LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight)

Subwayne Old Gotham South Puzzle Solution (LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight)

The Old Gotham South Subwayne sits behind a sealed yellow shutter marked with the familiar SubWayne logo. Opening it unlocks the fast-travel station for that district and adds it to the city-wide Subwayne network in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Quick answer: Pull down the metal panel, hit the yellow switch with a Batarang, then arrange the colored batteries so a red battery sits in machine 1 and a blue battery sits in machine 2. The shutter opens automatically.

What you need before starting

The Old Gotham South Subwayne can be approached as an open-world objective once you reach the district. The puzzle only requires Batman's standard kit, so there is no character-swap requirement like the Tricorner Island tunnel.

  • Grappling hook (to tear down the metal panel)
  • Batarang (to trigger the yellow switch)
  • X-Ray Vision (to read the internal wiring of the battery machines)

Subwayne Old Gotham South puzzle solution

Step 1: Approach the yellow SubWayne shutter and grapple the large metal panel covering the mechanism. Pulling it down exposes a row of five machines and a yellow target above them.

Step 2: Throw a Batarang at the yellow switch mounted above the panel. This powers up the battery wall so the slots will accept and read the colored cells.

Step 3: Activate X-Ray Vision to reveal the wiring behind the five machines. The internal circuit shows which colored battery each slot is expecting, so you can match them without guesswork.

Step 4: Pick up the blue battery already sitting in the second machine, then carry it over and place it in the fourth machine to clear the slot you actually need.

Step 5: Grab the red battery from the ground and drop it into the first machine on the left. The first slot will light up to confirm the correct color.

Step 6: Return to the fourth machine, pick the blue battery back up, and place it into the second machine. With red in slot 1 and blue in slot 2, the circuit completes.

How to confirm it worked

A green light runs through the wiring, and the shutter rolls open on its own. The on-screen banner reads SUBWAYNE 1/1 OLD GOTHAM SOUTH, a Fast Travel prompt appears at the entrance, and Alfred chimes in to note that the city travel network has expanded. Opening the map will now show Old Gotham South as a selectable Subwayne stop.

🗺️
If the shutter does not open after placing both batteries, check that the yellow switch above the panel was hit with a Batarang first. The slots will accept batteries before the switch is triggered, but the circuit will not complete.

Why the Old Gotham South Subwayne is worth doing early

Subwayne stations are the backbone of fast travel across Gotham in Legacy of the Dark Knight, and unlocking each one cuts down on long drives between districts. Old Gotham South is one of the simpler puzzles in the set, so it's a fast collectible to clear on a first pass through the area, especially compared to trickier stations like The Cauldron South, which requires moving shipping containers with a vehicle and powering a crane.

Once the station is active, you can pair it with the district's radio tower (hacked using Batgirl after she joins in Chapter 4) to surface the rest of Old Gotham South's collectibles on the map, including WayneTech Caches and Batcave Trophy pickups.
