The Swamp Creature's Tooth is a rare melee weapon in Windrose that trades conventional critical damage for an area-of-effect Distortion burst, making it one of the more unusual drops available in the Cursed Swamps region.

Where the Swamp Creature's Tooth drops
The weapon drops exclusively from plague-type Swamp Creatures found in the Tainted Forest, a sub-region of the Cursed Swamps biome. Crocodiles and other generic swamp wildlife do not drop it. The pool of eligible enemies includes Plague Crushers, Plague Thralls, and Plague Warriors.
Plague Crushers have the best reported drop rate of the group, so farming runs are most efficient when you prioritize them over the lighter plague enemies. They sit at level 15 and hit hard, but the fight pattern is predictable once you know what to watch for.

Gear to bring before entering the Tainted Forest
The zone applies a debuff called Wood Plague that drains health steadily the entire time you remain inside. Without mitigation, the debuff kills faster than the enemies do. A Sun Ring (Major) slows the Wood Plague tick rate enough to survive extended encounters and actually collect drops.
For the Plague Crusher fight specifically, ranged weapons outperform melee. Dragon's Breath works well because its fire cone and explosion-on-hit proc let you stack damage while staying mobile.
How to beat Plague Crushers
Step 1: Equip the Sun Ring (Major) before entering the Tainted Forest. This is the single most important piece of prep, since Wood Plague will otherwise drain your health faster than you can trade hits.
Step 2: Engage at range and aim for the orange glowing weak spot on the Plague Crusher's body. Hits to this spot deal significantly more damage than hits elsewhere.

Step 3: Use a run-and-evade pattern rather than standing your ground. Circling and repositioning opens clean shots and keeps the Crusher from landing its heavy swings.
Step 4: Back off when its health bar is nearly empty. At low HP, the Plague Crusher enters a distortion phase and physically throws nearby players a significant distance, which can knock you into other enemies or the edge of the arena.

Step 5: Loot the body. The Swamp Creature's Tooth is not a guaranteed drop, so expect empty runs and plan to kill multiple Plague Crushers per trip.
Swamp Creature's Tooth stats and mechanics
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Rare (Epic variant via upgrade) |
| Base damage | 280 Crude |
| On-crit effect | Distortion burst hits all nearby enemies |
| Scaling mechanic | Lower remaining health increases Distortion damage output |
| Secondary effect | Can stun and bite simultaneously, applies lacerations |
| Rare craft cost | 10 Wood, 3 Copper Ingot, 5 Ingot Arborum |
| Epic upgrade cost | 20 Wood, 4 Copper Ingot, 10 Ingot Arborum |
The critical hit behavior is what defines this weapon's role. Instead of the usual bonus damage on a crit, every crit triggers a Distortion AoE that hits everything around you. That turns the Tooth into a crowd-clear tool rather than a single-target option, and it pairs well with fights where multiple plague enemies swarm at once.
The second half of the mechanic rewards low-health play. Distortion output scales up as your remaining health drops, so the weapon hits hardest when you are closest to dying. Pairing it with Tracker's Leathers for healing effectiveness, or with the Rally mechanic for controlled HP recovery, lets you stay in the aggressive zone longer without getting one-shot.
Crafting the blueprint after the first drop
Once you secure the first Swamp Creature's Tooth from a kill, the crafting recipe unlocks at the Weaponsmith. The rare tier takes 10 Wood, 3 Copper Ingot, and 5 Ingot Arborum. Ingot Arborum is the gating material here, since it requires a trip through the Enchanting Table and Plague Wood processing to produce.
The Epic upgrade is handled at the Upgrading Station and doubles most material costs, plus increases the Ingot Arborum requirement to 10. The Epic variant keeps the same mechanic profile but with higher base numbers.

When the weapon is worth farming
The Swamp Creature's Tooth earns its slot when you're fighting groups of enemies rather than single bosses. Boarding combat, crowded pirate camps, and multi-target plague zones all favor the Distortion-on-crit mechanic. For single-target boss duels, a focused option like the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts (bleed stacks) or Dragon's Breath (sustained fire DoT) will out-damage it.
If your build leans into Privateer's Regalia for its bonus critical hit chance and critical damage scaling per nearby enemy, the Tooth becomes a strong pairing. More crits means more Distortion bursts, and more nearby enemies means each burst scales up the regalia's damage bonus simultaneously.
