Sword x Staff Tier List (June 2026): Best Classes, Skills, Pets

Sword x Staff hands you over 200 skills, pets, relics, and gear combinations, and the wrong picks slow your progress to a crawl. The rankings below cut through that by sorting every major class and skill by damage, scaling, and synergy so you can build around what actually performs.

⚔️
Quick answer: The best skill is Lion Combo (highest single-target DPS), the best pet is Zeioletus (top all-around AoE and combo support), and the best relic is Everburn Throne (+58 ATK across every class). For class choice, run Duelist if you play free-to-play and Sage if you invest heavily in the gacha.

How the Sword x Staff class system works

Your very first choice in Sword x Staff is the Sword or the Staff, which locks you into the Warrior path or the Mage path. You cannot freely swap between those two base paths without a new character or the higher-level class transfer system.

Each path branches into two advanced (Tier 2) specializations once your Total Level and Class Level reach the required thresholds. A promotion quest chain tests your base-class combat, and clearing it lets you pick your specialization. Switching between the two classes on your path later is possible, but it costs resources each time, so picking well early matters.

Best classes for free-to-play players

Without gacha spending, the class that performs on base stats alone wins. Duelist takes the top spot because its multi-hit combos and crit scaling work at any gear level, giving you strong single-target and boss damage before rare drops show up. Knight is the safe alternative, with enough bulk to clear solo PvE without needing specific gear to survive.

TierClassWhy it lands here
SDuelistBest F2P pick. Combo and crit identity delivers top burst and boss damage without premium gear.
AKnightReliable tank that carries solo PvE. Less explosive than Duelist but far more forgiving.
BSorcererStrong AoE and fast clears, but its ceiling leans on rare relics that are hard to get for free.
CSage, Mage, WarriorSage needs Erosion stacks and premium prayers to function. Mage and Warrior are starters meant to be replaced.

Best classes for paid players

Heavy gacha investment flips the order. Sage has the highest ceiling in the game once you stack its debuff mechanics with premium prayer pulls, turning a support kit into burst windows no other class matches at peak investment. Sorcerer rises too, since its elemental multipliers scale harder with rare relics than flat-damage classes.

TierClassWhy it lands here
SSageScales hardest with investment. High-end prayers and Erosion stacks outpace any Duelist combo at top levels.
ASorcerer, DuelistSorcerer's elemental modifiers scale hard with rare relics. Duelist stays excellent but loses its F2P lead.
BKnightRaw defense flattens out as DPS classes pull ahead with premium gear, lowering its relative impact.
CMage, WarriorStarter classes with no advanced benefits. Promote to a Tier 2 class as soon as thresholds are met.

S Tier skills in Sword x Staff

Skill rankings come down to damage output, AoE coverage, cooldown, and how much a skill adds to a full loadout. The six Legendary skills below stay effective from early game through endgame and define the current meta.

SkillWhat it doesBest for
Lion ComboHighest single-target damage in the game. Strikes the front enemy up to three times with a stacking damage multiplier.Boss fights, single-target DPS
Heavy ImpactHeavy physical hit to the enemy in front that launches them airborne. Priority targeting amplifies damage against large bosses.Boss fights, combo setups
Whirlwind SlashHeavy physical damage to all enemies in a 1-grid radius, capping at four hits. Scales well with upgrades.AoE DPS, late-game
Water AssaultAoE damage to enemies in front, stacking a multiplier on consecutive hits and against multiple targets.Boss fights, AoE, all modes
Blazing Fire RingMassive fire damage to all nearby enemies. The strongest Mage option in crowded fights, with strong upgrade scaling.AoE DPS, Fire core build
Wind's DelightSummons wind blades across a 6-grid radius for the widest coverage of any skill, sustaining DPS through groups.AoE, Wind core build

A Tier skills

The Epic skills here complement an S Tier loadout and carry you through mid-game content, though most have a clear drawback that keeps them below the Legendaries.

SkillStrength and limitBest for
Wind Blade SlashHeavy wind damage in front that knocks enemies airborne, but lacks wider AoE when foes are spread out.Combo setup, Wind builds
Quadrant SlashHeavy physical damage to grouped enemies, but struggles when targets kite from range.AoE DPS, Melee builds
Tempest SphereContinuous wind pressure on multiple targets, though damage falls off in higher stages.Burst AoE, mid game
CycloneHits a distant target and nearby enemies, pulling them airborne for combos, but needs precise timing.Ranged AoE, Wind builds
FireballHeavy AoE fire damage with a repositioning move, but the reposition is random and can drop you into danger.Early to mid game, Fire builds

Duelist and Sorcerer build priorities

Duelist runs on Crit Rate and Crit Damage. Lion Combo anchors the kit, lifesteal modifiers keep your HP up during long fights, and certain skills chain into each other for bonus damage. The key is the combo window. After an opener like Lion Combo, you have a short timer to follow up with a second skill, so you keep a rhythm of chained attacks rather than isolated casts. Slash Storm covers groups, Blade Rush closes gaps and starts chains, and Blood Strike tops off HP in longer encounters.

Sorcerer scales off Magic Attack and Elemental Mastery, with your Wind, Fire, Water, or Light alignment shaping the build. It is the fastest farmer for clearing mob packs, leaning on loops like Cyclone and Water Assault with crit and elemental scaling.

🛡️
For F2P accounts, the strongest opening pulls are Water Assault plus Water to Ice on the Mage side, or Blade of Lament and Whirlwind Slash on the Warrior side. Stop rerolling once you have one core Technique and a matching Charm for the same path.

Best pet and relic picks

Zeioletus is the top all-around pet, combining AoE damage with reliable combo support that fits nearly any build. Fantomon (pets) unlock at account level 50, so save your Summon Crystals toward Mythic priorities and match an orange Attack, Defense, or Healing type to your class role before chasing gold rarity.

Everburn Throne is the standout relic with a direct +58 ATK boost that stays useful on every class from early game to endgame. It is the simplest power increase to slot in regardless of your build direction.

Use these rankings as a shortlist for whatever is blocking your current progress rather than a fixed order. Swap one skill at a time, fix survival before chasing speed, and let your investment level decide whether you commit to a Duelist-style F2P core or push a Sage build to its high-investment ceiling.
