Tattered Banners: How to Assemble Your Mercenary Company Banner

Gather two Wolf Pelts, two Wood, and 700 Gold, then raise your banner at Kraggen's Hold Town Hall.

Gather two Wolf Pelts, two Wood, and 700 Gold, then raise your banner at Kraggen’s Hold Town Hall.

The opening objective in Tattered Banners asks you to turn a ragged trio of peasants into a registered mercenary company. That means clearing the “Assemble Your Banner” quest, which locks three specific requirements behind a settlement action in Kraggen’s Hold. Once the materials and gold are in hand, the banner ceremony is a single confirmation at the Town Hall.

Quick answer: Collect 2 Wolf Pelts, 2 Wood, and 700 Gold, travel to Kraggen’s Hold, open the Town Hall, and select “Raise Banner” to name and design your company.

What you need to raise the banner

The quest tracker lists three items on the overworld. You begin with 400 Gold, so the money goal is really an extra 300 on top of your starting purse. The full checklist is short.

  • 2 Wolf Pelts, dropped by hostile wolf packs on the map.
  • 2 Wood, picked up from fallen tree branches on the terrain.
  • 700 Gold, reached through trade sales or a tavern contract.

Pick your origin at the start

Before the quest appears, the game asks you to choose an origin that sets your three starting characters, their traits, and their gear. The Rural plainfolk option gives a Farmer with a scythe, a Poacher with a bow, and a Shepherd with a club. The banner objective is identical whichever origin you pick, so choose the mix you prefer to fight with.

Get 2 Wolf Pelts from wolf packs

Move across the world map until you spot a hostile group marked “A wolf pack.” Walk into it to open the Battle Preparations window and deploy your party.

Fight the wolves on the grid using the timeline turn order. Keep your archer at range and your melee units in support, since each ability spends stamina measured against a breath pool.

If a unit hits 0 stamina it gains the “Out of Breath” condition, which cancels its delayed actions and leaves it exposed until its next turn. Watch the stamina bar before committing an attack.

Clear the pack to reach the Victory screen, which awards experience and loot. Wolf drops include Wolf Claws, Wolf Fangs, and the Wolf Pelts you need. Beat enough packs to bank 2 Wolf Pelts.

Collect 2 Wood from fallen branches

Wood is a free pickup rather than a crafted item. As you travel, look for fallen logs and branches lying on the terrain and interact with them to harvest. Two nodes cover the requirement. The same overworld also holds Noxunite Ore, but that is not needed for the banner.

Reach 700 Gold through trade and contracts

You have two reliable ways to top up your gold. The faster route is a tavern contract, and the steadier route is selling surplus loot at a farm or market.

  • Accept the “Kill Beasts” contract at the Kraggen’s Hold Tavern for a +700 Gold reward.
  • Sell spare wolf parts and trade goods at a nearby farm to make up any shortfall.

Completing “Kill Beasts” also builds relations with the local noble house, so the contract route pays off twice while you gather the last of your gold.

Raise the banner at Kraggen’s Hold Town Hall

Carry 2 Wolf Pelts, 2 Wood, and 700 Gold, then make your way to Kraggen’s Hold and go inside the Town Hall.
Choose the “Raise Banner” action. This opens the Create Banner customization screen for your emblem, pattern, and colors.
Design the banner, then rename the company from its default “Quiet Turnips” to whatever you like, and confirm to found your warband.

How to confirm the banner is done

Confirming the design completes the “Assemble Your Banner” objective and opens a progression track for your company. It has six disciplines, listed in order: Warfare, followed by Subterfuge, then Trade, then Survival, then Logistics, and finally Diplomacy. Once the banner is up, head back to the Tavern, hire a fourth recruit, and begin tackling larger contracts like “Hunt Down Bandits.”

Tattered Banners is in development at CookieByte Entertainment for a Q1 2027 Early Access launch, and a playable demo is already available on its Steam page if you want to try the banner flow yourself.
