Locations, dialogue prompts, and loot for Out of Love, Familiar Face, and Old Hand in Bakir's court.

Locations, dialogue prompts, and loot for Out of Love, Familiar Face, and Old Hand in Bakir’s court.

Bakir’s court has three pillory activities, and all of them follow the same shape. Coen walks up to a man locked in a pillory, tells the guards to stand down, kills them, and cuts the prisoner loose. What changes is who is in the pillory and what happens afterwards, and one of the three ends with Coen killing the man he just saved.

Quick answer: Complete Out of Love in Svartrau City, Familiar Face in Parlina, and Old Hand in front of Lunar Manor near The Slit. Each one costs 3 time segments and pays out 19 XP, 1 Skill Point, and loot once the captive is freed.

Requirements before you start

Bakir’s region is tuned for level 20 and up, so these are best tackled after Ambrus. Every pillory spends 3 time segments out of your 30 in-game days, which is the standard cost for a court activity.

None of the three appear on the map on their own. They sit in the Court menu as “Unknown Activity” until you physically find them, so climbing the towers nearby is the fastest way to mark them with white question marks. Once discovered, the objective shows up in your journal like any other quest.

Bakir’s Pillories: Out of Love (Svartrau City)

Head into the middle of Svartrau City and find the backyard beside the Curious House. A small crowd is gathered around the pillory, and the objective asks you to investigate the gathering.
Talk to the guard and pick “I’m setting this man free. (3)”. The other lines, including “What has he done?” and “I want no trouble.”, do not start the fight. The aggressive option is what triggers combat.
Kill the guards, then interact with the pillory to release Nelu. He explains that he was starved and beaten, then points you toward a merchant named Vicho in Altenmarkt and asks you to pick up an order in his place.

The activity closes out immediately after that conversation. Loot the bodies for Denarius (10), Broken Armour, a Regenerative Salve, and a Bounty Announcement before you leave.

Bakir’s Pillories: Familiar Face (Parlina)

Travel to Parlina and follow the yellow “!” icon on the main road. The pillory is out in the open with a guard detachment standing around it.
Approach and choose “Let this man go. (3)” to start the fight. This group is noticeably larger than the one in Svartrau City, so make sure you have room to move before you commit.

Free the captive once the guards are down. He turns out to be Vasil, one of the villagers from Laslea Glen who you can meet during the prologue side quest Someone Needs a Lesson.
Watch the cutscene. Coen’s hunger takes over on its own, he feeds on Vasil, and Vasil dies. The Feral Hunger trophy pops as the scene ends, and the activity is marked complete.

Note: Vasil’s death is part of the scene, not a choice you make at the pillory. Sweep the area afterwards for Brencis’s Insignia, a Bandit’s Bottle Gutter, Ribwort Plantain, and the Letter of Regimond.

Bakir’s Pillories: Old Hand (Lunar Manor)

Go to the ruins in front of Lunar Manor, near The Slit south of Svartrau City. The pillory sits out front with guards and a small crowd of onlookers.
Speak to the guards and pick “Step aside, now. (3)” to begin combat, then clear them out.

Deal with the onlookers. One of them objects to the release, claiming the prisoner rode with Skender’s men. Stand up for him with “I’m not letting anyone hurt this man” and send the crowd away.
Free Baltzer of Trier. He thanks Coen and invites you to his camp, north-west of the pillory, to learn a few things. That invitation opens the sub-quest Bakir’s Pillories: Catalin’s Tutor.
Visit the camp, ask him to teach you, and beat him in the duel he offers. Win it and he becomes a Swordmastery Teacher you can train with. Loot around the pillory for One-and-a-Half Mead, Denarius (7), Broken Boots, and a Vial of Human Blood.

Rewards and loot from all three pillories

Out of Love19 XP, 1 Skill PointDenarius (10), Broken Armour, Regenerative Salve, Bounty Announcement
Familiar Face19 XP, 1 Skill Point, Feral Hunger trophyBrencis’s Insignia, Bandit’s Bottle Gutter, Ribwort Plantain, Letter of Regimond
Old Hand19 XP, 1 Skill Point, Catalin’s Tutor sub-questOne-and-a-Half Mead, Denarius (7), Broken Boots, Vial of Human Blood

How to confirm each pillory counted

Completion is confirmed by the reward screen. The activity name is struck through, 19 XP and a Skill Point are awarded, and the entry fills in on Bakir’s panel in the Court menu with his Anger Level ticking upward.

If nothing registers, the usual reason is that the fight never started. Killing the guards is not enough on its own either, because the activity only closes once you interact with the pillory and release the man inside. And the pillories alone will not draw Bakir out. They are three entries among his rebel hunters, payoff transports, distilleries, and the hidden Uriash village activity, and you need to clear roughly three quarters of that list before his duel quest appears.

Worth planning around: two of the three leave you with something beyond the XP. Nelu’s errand sends you toward Vicho in Altenmarkt, and Baltzer turns into a permanent Swordmastery Teacher if you defend him from the crowd and win his duel. Familiar Face gives you a trophy and a corpse, and there is no version of it where Vasil walks away.
