The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Send the Second Letter to Lunka

Where the Sanzhani Tsarina waits in the Yawning Burrow, and when Lunka's next reply lands in your inventory.

Where the Sanzhani Tsarina waits in the Yawning Burrow, and when Lunka’s next reply lands in your inventory.

Letters to Lunka is the one quest chain in The Blood of Dawnwalker that pays out in the game’s scarcest resource, and the second letter is where the loop becomes routine. Coen doesn’t write it himself. He walks back into a burrow under the Outskirts and tells a moth-sized fairy what to say.

Quick answer: Read “Answer from Lunka: Rescue” in the Quest Items tab of your inventory, then travel to the Yawning Burrow in the Svartrau Outskirts and speak to the Sanzhani Tsarina to choose what the second letter asks.

What has to be done before the second letter unlocks

The objective doesn’t appear on its own. Three things gate it, and they happen in a fixed order.

RequirementWhy it matters
Finish the Good Home questIt introduces the Sanzhani Tsarina in the Yawning Burrow and starts Letters to Lunka. No sanzhani are visible on the map before this.
Send the first letterThe Tsarina only carries one message at a time, and each completed sanzhani quest earns another.
Wait one day-night transition, then read the replyLunka’s answer is delivered as a quest item. The “Read Lunka’s letter” objective must be cleared before “Send the second letter to Lunka” becomes active.

Sending the letter itself costs 0 Time Segments, so the trip back to the burrow doesn’t eat into the countdown to Brencis’ coronation.

Getting back to the Sanzhani Tsarina in the Yawning Burrow

Open your inventory and switch to the Quest Items tab. Read “Answer from Lunka: Rescue” — the reply where she describes her nightmare about Branis and says she just wants to come home. Clearing this read prompt is what flips the quest to the next objective.

Open the world map and find your current position. The Letters to Lunka marker sits in Vale Sangora, in the Svartrau Outskirts, so you may need to pan the map away from wherever the main story left you.

Highlight the golden quest marker over the Outskirts and set it as your tracked objective. Fast travel to the nearest shrine if one is unlocked, then follow the compass distance readout on foot.

Follow the rocky path downhill until the compass marker reads under 40 meters. The burrow entrance is a low opening in the rock, ringed by clusters of red mushrooms on the ground outside — that mushroom patch is the reliable visual cue if the marker overlaps the terrain.

Crouch and crawl through the narrow tunnel. It’s a short, dark, lantern-lit passage with no combat and no branching paths, so keep moving until the objective distance drops to around 10 meters.

Talk to the Sanzhani Tsarina at the end of the burrow and pick the subject of the letter. The dialogue is the delivery — there’s no item to hand over.

What you can ask Lunka in the second letter

The Tsarina offers a set of subjects, and each one you choose becomes its own wait-and-read objective. You aren’t locked out of the others, since every additional sanzhani you help earns another message, up to five in total.

SubjectWhat the reply covers
PieterHow Coen and Lunka’s father is holding up in captivity.
Greifberg’s defencesAnything Lunka can see or overhear about how Castle Greifberg is guarded.
BrencisWhat Brencis is doing inside the castle and whether the family features in his plans.
A gift for herSomething Lunka would like, asked so Coen can bring it when he comes.

How to confirm the letter was sent

As soon as the conversation ends, the journal entry swaps from “Send the second letter to Lunka” to a matching “Wait for Lunka’s answer” objective naming the subject you picked. That swap is the confirmation.

The reply needs one full day-night transition to arrive. When it does, the objective becomes a “Read Lunka’s answer” prompt and the letter appears in the Quest Items tab, exactly like the first one. You do not have to sit in the burrow waiting — go do something else and come back.

If the send option isn’t there, it’s almost always one of three things. You haven’t read the previous reply yet, a day-night transition hasn’t passed since the last message, or you’re standing in front of a sanzhani you helped rather than the Tsarina herself. Only the Tsarina in the Yawning Burrow takes letters.

Why the letters are worth the detour

Five sanzhani exist across Vale Sangora, and each one you rescue or assist buys another letter. Working through all of them and reporting back to the Tsarina hands Coen an extra day before the coronation — eight daytime segments and eight nighttime segments added to the clock — along with The Tsarina’s Favorite Human achievement.

Note: individual sanzhani quests do cost roughly 2 Time Segments each to complete, so the net gain comes from finishing the whole set rather than any single rescue.

The chain also has an alternative ending. Coen can drop the correspondence entirely and put everything into reaching his family, which closes out the quest without the exchange. If you want the extra day, though, keep making the walk back down to the mushrooms.
