The Blood of Dawnwalker: Investigate Gremla’s Shed Using Focus Mode

The four clues Coen needs to identify the banner thief and push the Blasphemy side quest into its next stage.

The four clues Coen needs to identify the banner thief and push the Blasphemy side quest into its next stage.

Gremla’s stolen banner is the first real detective beat in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it hinges entirely on Focus Mode. The side quest Blasphemy asks Coen to work out who tore a banner off her loom, and the game gives you no waypoint markers for the individual clues — only yellow outlines that appear when Focus Mode is active. Four objects need to be inspected, in a rough line that starts inside the shed and continues along the dirt path outside.

Quick answer: Hold Focus Mode (L2 / LT) and inspect four things in order — the broken loom pegs inside Gremla’s shed, a small hole in the dirt outside, a torn banner scrap with blood on it, and a wide footprint further along the track. The objective clears the moment the footprint is examined.

Where the Blasphemy investigation starts

Blasphemy is a Prologue side quest set in Laslea Glen, and it begins by talking with Gremla, who waits outside her cabin. That conversation ends with the objective Investigate Gremla’s shed and its surroundings using Focus Mode, and Coen can walk straight past her and through the wooden door to begin.

One timing warning matters more than anything else here. Prologue quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker are missable — they vanish once the Prologue ends and cannot be picked up in the open world afterwards. If Blasphemy is in your journal, finish it before you advance the main Prologue chain.

All four Focus Mode clues, in order

Enter the shed and hold Focus Mode. The broken loom lights up in yellow along the back of the room. Inspect it and Coen notes the snapped pegs, concluding the banner was pulled off in a rush rather than carefully removed.

Head back outside and keep Focus Mode active while following the highlighted tracks along the dirt. A small round hole in the ground is the second clue. Coen reads it as the mark left by a stick or a cane pressed into the soil.
Continue a short distance to a torn scrap of the banner caught nearby. Interacting with it reveals blood on the fabric, which Coen puts down to the thief cutting a hand while wrenching the cloth free.
Follow the trail to its last marker and inspect the footprint in the dirt. It is far too wide to belong to Gremla, which rules her out and locks in the profile of the person you are looking for.

What each clue proves about the thief

The four objects are not filler. Each one narrows the suspect list, and together they produce the description the quest uses for its next stage.

ClueWhat it establishes
Broken loom pegsThe banner was yanked off in a hurry, not taken with care
Hole in the dirtThe thief leans on a stick or walking cane
Bloodied banner scrapThe thief injured a hand pulling the banner loose
Wide footprintThe print is too large to be Gremla’s, clearing her

Coen sums it up out loud once the last clue is read — someone who walks with a cane and has an injured hand. That is the exact pair of traits you will be scanning villagers for next.

How to confirm the objective is done

You will see a QUEST UPDATED prompt, and the tracker swaps to Search for villagers with walking canes using Focus Mode. A NEW GLOSSARY ENTRY ADDED notification also fires during this stretch of the quest. From there the search moves out into Laslea Glen, with Laslea Centre as the obvious place to start sweeping crowds.

Note: the trail is short, and the clues sit close together along the same path. If the objective is still showing after you think you have found everything, you have almost certainly skipped one of the four.

Why the objective might not complete

  • Focus Mode is not held down. The loom, the hole, the scrap and the footprint only outline in yellow while it is active, and they are easy to walk past otherwise.
  • Only the shed interior was searched. The last three clues are all outdoors, along the dirt track leading away from the cabin.
  • You looked at a clue without interacting with it. Each one needs the inspect prompt to register, not just a glance.

Once the trail is read and the quest ticks over, Blasphemy stops being an environmental puzzle and becomes a people problem. The cane and the wounded hand are the only two details worth carrying forward, so keep Focus Mode ready as you move through the village.
