The Blood of Dawnwalker: Investigate the Suspicious Sound (Tiny Dancer)

How to reach the attic of the Curious House in Svartrau City, find the cage key, and free the Sanzhana.

How to reach the attic of the Curious House in Svartrau City, find the cage key, and free the Sanzhana.

Walk past a certain shuttered house in Svartrau City and Coen will stop to comment on a noise coming from inside. That’s the trigger for Tiny Dancer, one of the five Sanzhana quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and the first objective it hands you — Investigate the suspicious sound — is deliberately vague. The noise is coming from the floor above you, and the ground floor door that leads up there is locked.

Quick answer: Get to the upper floor of the Curious House in Svartrau City, either by unlocking the interior door with the Merchant’s Key from the ground-floor table or by climbing the exterior balcony at night, then take the Cage key from the desk by the window and open the cage to free the Sanzhana.

Where Tiny Dancer starts in Svartrau City

The quest marker sits on the Curious House inside Svartrau City itself, not the outskirts. Open your map, look for the Available Quest icon in the city, and track it. The quest only formally begins once you’re at the building and hear the sound, so nothing appears in your journal until you’re standing there.

This one is a night job. Tiny Dancer is meant to be tackled after dark, which is also when your vampiric abilities are available for the climb up the outside of the building. Attempting it in daylight leaves you with the locked-door route only.

Two ways to reach the upper floor

The objective updates to Find a way to get to the upper floor once you’ve poked around the ground floor. There are two routes, and both end in the same attic room.

Inside, through the locked doorThe Merchant’s Key from the main table on the ground floor
Outside, up the wallNighttime and vampiric climbing to reach the balcony and open attic doorway

Interior route: find the Merchant’s Key

Enter the shop on the ground floor. The sound plays as you move through the room, and the quest appears in your journal.
Search the main table. The Merchant’s Key is sitting there alongside a small pile of Denarius. Grab the key first — everything else here is optional loot.
Read the Storekeep’s Letter on the barrel if you want the context behind what the shopkeeper has been doing. It has no effect on the objective.
Use the Merchant’s Key on the locked door and head up the stairs.

Exterior route: climb to the balcony

If you’d rather skip the key hunt, circle around the outside of the house after dark and climb to the ledge above. The balcony has an open doorway straight into the attic, which puts you in the same room as the cage without touching the locked interior door.

Cage key location and freeing the Sanzhana

Upstairs, the noise resolves into a small creature rattling around inside a cage on the table. Interacting with it gives you Open the Cage, which immediately turns into Find the key to the cage.

You don’t need to search far. The Cage key is on the desk near the window in the same room, on the left as you come in from the balcony. Take it and use it on the cage.

The creature inside is a Sanzhana named Sanzhana, and she reacts the moment the cage opens with a line about being free and no longer having to dance. That’s your confirmation the objective is done.

What happens after you open the cage

Sanzhana talks about her captivity, says she’ll pass word of your help to the Sanzhani Tsarina, and tells you there’s silver stashed under the floorboards in the adjoining room. Opening that door puts you face to face with the Merchant, who demands to know what you’re doing and turns hostile after the conversation.

Beat him and you can loot Golden Earrings and coins from his body. Then use Focus Mode in that room to spot the loose floorboard and take the hidden stash, which includes the silver and the Epic amulet Amulet of the Lizard. That’s the point where Tiny Dancer wraps up.

Tip: the chests on both floors are worth opening while you’re here. The ground floor chest holds an Expensive Doll, Linseed Oil, a Head, and Dael’s Lullaby, and the upstairs chest contains Boar Meat, a Common Battleword, and a Mirror.

Why the objective may not complete

Two things usually hold people up. The first is trying the quest during the day, when the exterior climb isn’t an option and the locked door blocks you. The second is opening the cage before you have the key — the prompt will simply read as needing a key until the Cage key is in your inventory.

Tiny Dancer is the second of five Sanzhana quests, and the payoff for finishing all five is worth the detour. Once every Sanzhana has been helped, the Sanzhani Tsarina at the Yawning Burrow gives you a full day back on the 30-day timer, which is the one resource in Vale Sangora you can never buy more of.
