Isbrand’s Greaves are the easiest Legendary armor piece to pick up in The Blood of Dawnwalker. No boss, no quest chain, no locked door. They sit in a chest in the open world, guarded by a few kobolds that a low-level Coen can handle, which makes them the natural first Legendary pickup once free roam opens up.

Quick answer: Travel to the Kobold’s Nest southwest of Rockfalls, kill the kobolds outside the cave, then open the yellow chest tucked against the cliff wall beside the entrance. Isbrand’s Greaves are inside.

Kobold’s Nest location and what you need before you go

The Kobold’s Nest is a marked point of interest in the southwestern part of Vale Sangora, below Rockfalls. The fastest approach is to fast travel to the Gravel Lea shrine and head south on foot until the cave mouth appears. Nothing about the trip is gated, so you can do it during your first stretch of free roam.

The greaves themselves are Level 12 gear, but the fight outside the cave is not scaled to that. A single trip out and back costs roughly one day segment of your 30-day clock, which is about as cheap as Legendary gear gets.

How to reach the chest and loot Isbrand’s Greaves

Open the world map and pan southwest, past Rockfalls, until you find the Kobold’s Nest marker. Set it as your tracked objective so the route stays on your compass while you ride.

Follow the path until the cave mouth comes into view. The kobolds patrol the flat ground right in front of it, so they will notice you before you reach the entrance.

Fight the three kobolds. They come at you one at a time more often than not, and perfect blocks followed by ripostes end each of them quickly without draining much stamina.

Loot the bodies before you move on. The kobolds carry Denarius, Wolf Pelt, Common Yarrow, Boar Meat, Kobold Bile, and Tainted Marrow, and the experience from the fight is usually enough to trigger a level-up this early.

Look to the right of the cave entrance, where the ground meets the rock face. The yellow chest is pushed up against the cliffside and is easy to walk past. Open it to collect Isbrand’s Greaves.

Open your inventory and check the trousers slot. The greaves show up under Legendary Medium Trousers, and equipping them replaces whatever you were wearing. That inventory entry is your confirmation that the pickup worked.

Note: You do not have to go inside the cave for this. The chest sits outside, so if a tracked objective is telling you to enter, you can grab the loot and leave.

Everything inside the chest

The greaves are the headline, but the chest is stuffed. A crafting manual and a sellable brooch come with it, along with a shortsword that outclasses most early-game blades.

There is one more stop worth making. A corpse lies next to a cart near the cave, and searching it yields Soldier’s Bracers, a handful of crafting materials such as Dog Hide, Aconite, and Chain, plus a note called Meat Transport Orders that explains why a pile of carrion keeps arriving at a kobold den.

Isbrand’s Greaves stats and the Medium Armour penalty

The greaves are a hybrid piece. They feed both vampire and human play, with vampiric cooldown and health segment bonuses on one side, and block-based Activation Charge restoration on the other, which pairs well with a perfect-block Swordmastery setup.

Watch the proficiency line in the tooltip. If Coen is not proficient with Medium Armour yet, the item card says so directly and every stat on the piece is reduced by 30 percent. The greaves are still a clear upgrade over early common trousers in that state, but the full numbers only come online once you have the proficiency.

The Level 12 requirement also means you may loot these before you can wear them at full effect. That is fine, since armorers can upgrade gear later, so an early Legendary piece does not become dead weight when the world levels past it.

Made of steel so black, it almost seems to suck in the surrounding light.

Wicked Falchion stats

The shortsword in the same chest is worth equipping right away if you have not found anything better. It is fast, cheap on stamina, and hits harder against supernatural enemies, which covers most of what stalks Vale Sangora after dark.

Isbrand’s Greaves are one of two Legendary trousers in the game, the other being the Enhanced Shin Guards of the Arbiter earned from A Bulwark Against Darkness. Since the greaves cost you nothing but a short ride and a three-kobold scrap, they are the cleanest way to start ticking off the Legendary collection, and the natural lower-body pairing for Ambrus’s Cuirass once you are strong enough to take him on.
