Sacred Covenant is the early main quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker that sets up everything Coen does afterward. It is almost entirely scripted, split between a church service in Moonrise and a doomed silver mining run, and it hands off directly into the next main quest. There is no combat to survive here, but there are dialogue prompts and one skill unlock worth knowing about before you walk in.
Quick answer: Enter the church, sit in the pew next to Pieter and Esme, sit through Father Florin’s sermon and Knyaz Brencis’s blood ritual, then follow Pieter to the mine and hide when he tells you to. The quest ends when the cave-in knocks Coen out and Bad Blood appears in the log.
Sacred Covenant objectives in order
The quest runs as a fixed sequence of beats. Nothing here is missable in a way that locks you out, but knowing the order makes it obvious when a scene is about to take control away from you.
| Beat | What happens |
|---|---|
| Enter the church | Like Father, Like Son ends; Charge Manual unlocks; Monumits glossary entry added |
| Talk with other villagers | Optional chatter before the service, including Vasil |
| Sit in the pew | Take the seat next to Pieter and Esme |
| Florin’s sermon | Two dialogue prompts during the speech |
| Brencis arrives | Blood ritual at the altar with Ambrus in tow |
| Esme’s turn | Confrontation cutscene; Coen is restrained and threatened |
| Wake at home | Fetch Pieter’s sword and head out with the family watching |
| The mine | Mine silver ore until Kostel’s warning, then hide |
| After the cave-in | Two dialogue prompts with Vladimir; Bad Blood begins |

The skill you pick up on entry is a heavy opener rather than anything situational, and it comes with four upgrade slots you have not filled yet.

|---|---|
| Damage | 200% attack damage |
| Stun duration | 2 seconds |
| Bleed chance | 50% on target |
| Upgrades | 0/4 unlocked |
Florin’s sermon and the two dialogue prompts
Father Florin opens by drawing attention to the new tapestry hanging in the church, which depicts a distinctly unfriendly God, then pivots into praise for Knyaz Brencis as the village’s protector. It is a long speech, and the game interrupts it twice to ask where Coen stands.

The first prompt lands during the sermon’s opening stretch. The second comes after Florin frames Brencis drinking villagers’ blood as a fair trade for protection from plague, war, and famine.

| When | Options |
|---|---|
| Early in the sermon | “This is sick.” / “[remain silent]” |
| After Florin defends the blood price | “May it forever endure.” / “[remain silent]” |
| Waking in the mine | “Where is my father?” / “What happened?” |
| Follow-up with Vladimir | “He’d never leave me.” / “I’ve got to find him.” |
Tip: staying silent keeps Coen’s objection private, while speaking up puts him on record in front of the whole congregation. Pick based on how you want him read by the village, not on any mechanical payoff.
The blood ritual and the confrontation with Brencis
Knyaz Brencis enters with his armored henchman Ambrus and the villagers form a line at the altar. Brencis cuts each hand with a dagger and catches the blood in a golden chalice. It plays out at length, and you are a spectator for all of it.
Esme freezes when her turn comes, so Ambrus drags her forward by the arm. Brencis cuts her hand, she collapses, and he calls her weak. That is Coen’s breaking point, and he stands up to call Brencis a monster. Ambrus pins him, Brencis delivers a threat, and the pair leave.

The silver mine run and the cave-in
Coen comes to wounded, with Vladimir patching him up and confirming that the rest of the group appears to be dead. Two prompts follow, asking what Coen wants to know and how he reacts to Pieter’s absence.

How to confirm Sacred Covenant is complete
The handoff is immediate and unmistakable. Once the conversation with Vladimir wraps, the log swaps over to Bad Blood with the objective “Search for your father deeper in the mine,” and a Blood Covenant entry is added to your glossary. If you are still standing in the collapsed section with no new objective, the dialogue has not finished playing out yet.
From there you are pushed deeper into the caverns rather than back out the way you came, so there is no reason to backtrack toward the sealed doors. The silver you helped mine is not something you carry out with you, and the sword Pieter had you fetch gets its first real use later.
