The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Price of Magic Full Walkthrough

Everything needed to trigger the swamp ritual, survive the spectres, and walk away with the Mysterious Bracelet.

Everything needed to trigger the swamp ritual, survive the spectres, and walk away with the Mysterious Bracelet.

The Price of Magic is an unmarked side quest in The Silts, the swampy stretch of Rebel Wolves’ open world. There is no quest giver and no journal entry pointing you toward it. You simply walk into a fog-covered stone circle, find a corpse, and the objective appears. Finish it and you leave with a set of Epic light bracers.

Quick answer: Travel to The Swamp Menhirs shrine during the day, walk to the stone circle just southwest of it, sweep the area in Focus Mode for the torn page, torch, book, pendant and bracelet, then use Astral Communion on the central obelisk and kill the three Nameless Horror spectres.

Quest requirements and reward

There is no prerequisite quest and no fail state, so the stone circle sits there permanently until you decide to start it. The only hard gate is the clock. The ritual has to be performed in daylight, so arriving at night means waiting before anything will trigger.

Fail stateNone

Reward100 XP and Mysterious Bracelet (Epic light bracers)

The Mysterious Bracelet drops at level 29 with 113 Armour. Its useful rolls are +5.4% magical damage reduction, +9% damage against mortals and +9% witchcraft ability damage. The vampiric lines on it all sit at zero, and claw damage takes a 9.7% hit, so it is squarely a human-side witchcraft piece rather than something to wear on a claw build.

Where to find the stone circle in The Silts

Open the world map and zoom into the swamp. The Swamp Menhirs fast travel shrine is your anchor point. From there, head a short distance southwest on foot until the fog thickens and a ring of standing stones with a tall central obelisk resolves out of the mist. A body is lying in the middle of it.

The circle carries no map icon of its own. Crossing the boundary is what registers the quest, at which point Coen remarks on the fog and the corpse and the objective “Investigate the stone circle using Focus Mode” appears in the journal.

Collect the five clue items in Focus Mode

Focus Mode paints yellow trails between every interactable in the circle, and following them in any order works. What matters is that you pick everything up before you touch the corpse, because several of these items double as catalysts for the soul compulsion later.

Activate Focus Mode as soon as the quest starts. The dead body sits near the centre, and the pendant along with a Golden Chain is on the ground right beside a second corpse. Grab both.

Move behind the central pillar to collect A Torn Out Page and the Discarded Torch. The page carries the Latin chant you will need at the obelisk: “Vita et mors. Erige velamen inter eos, profer praesidium. Salva vitam, aufer vitam.”
Look to the right of the pillar for the book De Vocatione et Ligatione, roughly “On Summoning and Binding”. A bookmark comes with it and functions as a separate catalyst.
Pick up the Bracelet and its Gift Box directly in front of the pillar. One of the outer stones also carries a carved symbol worth examining while you are circling the ring.

Compel Soul catalysts and what each memory reveals

Use Compel Soul on the wizard’s body in front of the pillar. Each catalyst you feed it plays a different memory, and together they explain why a mage was out here alone trying to bind something. None of these are mandatory for completion, but the Gift Box memory is the one that names the charm you are about to finish making.

NoneHis death — swarmed by moths mid-ritual
Discarded TorchRegret over his hubris and his attempt to stop what he started
BookmarkBuying the pendant from a shopkeeper, dedication included
Gift BoxHis plan to finish a charm that would protect someone else

Complete the ritual and defeat the spectres

With the objective updated to “Complete the ritual to create a defensive charm”, walk up to the central obelisk and interact with it. Coen uses Astral Communion and recites the Latin phrase from the torn page. Finishing the chant is what summons the enemies, so heal up and reposition before you commit.

Three red spectres called The Nameless Horror spawn inside the circle. They are the only combat in the quest. Clearing all three flips the objective to complete, and time then advances through a cutscene until moonrise, at which point the Mysterious Bracelet lands in your inventory alongside 100 XP.

Note: the fight happens in daylight, when Coen is weaker with claws. Sword and witchcraft abilities are the sensible loadout here rather than leaning on vampiric powers.

How to confirm the quest is finished

Completion is unambiguous. The moonrise cutscene plays automatically once the last spectre falls, the quest clears from the journal, and the Mysterious Bracelet appears as a reward notification. If the cutscene has not played, at least one spectre is still alive somewhere in the fog.

If the obelisk gives you no Astral Communion prompt at all, the usual cause is timing. The ritual only works during the day, so wait out the night and return. The other common blocker is an unread clue — sweep the circle again in Focus Mode and make sure the torn page in particular is in your inventory.

Before you leave, sweep the area one more time. A Rotten Book, Copper Sulfate, Rotten Meat and a Chelidonium Solution are scattered around the stones and are worth grabbing for alchemy.

The whole thing costs three time segments out of your 30-day countdown, which is the same price as most court activities. For a set of Epic bracers that pushes witchcraft damage and cuts magical damage taken, it is a cheap detour on any trip through the swamp.
