The Division 2 Dust Storm Event: Storm Keys and Full Reward List

Everything the Dust Storm event drops, how to farm Storm Keys fast, and the milestones tied to your key count.

Everything the Dust Storm event drops, how to farm Storm Keys fast, and the milestones tied to your key count.

Sandstorms have rolled into Lower Manhattan, and The Division 2 has turned New York into a low-visibility hunting ground for its limited-time Dust Storm event. It brings a new Rikers splinter faction, two event bosses, a mysterious Hunter, and a Storm Key economy that feeds an Event Vendor stuffed with cosmetics and gear. The event is live now and stays open through August 11, 2026.

Quick answer: Reach Level 40, finish the Warlords of New York campaign (free during the event), then farm Dust Devil Kill Squads, the bosses Pall and Black Lung, and the Scoured Hunter for Storm Keys. Spend those keys at the Event Vendor in Haven for Apparel Caches and Gear Caches.

Requirements to join the Dust Storm event

The event is open to everyone, but the combat and reward loops have two gates. You need a Level 40 character and a completed Warlords of New York campaign. Warlords is free for all players for the duration of the event, so you can unlock the New York map without buying the expansion.

Simply logging in during the event window grants the free Parched Mask, so it is worth booting the game up even if you don’t plan to grind that day.

How the dust storm weather works

The event swaps New York’s normal weather for a rotating storm system that changes how fights play out. Visibility drops, wind noise masks enemy audio, and hostiles use the cover to ambush you. There are two states.

The Calm Dust Storm is the default when you load into the map. It obscures sightlines without overwhelming you and lasts roughly 18 minutes before escalating. The timer resets every time you log in, so a fresh session always starts in the calmer state.

The Raging Dust Storm is the dangerous phase. Visibility drops further and intense wind sounds disorient you for an 8-minute window that gives enemy squads near-perfect ambush cover. When it ends, the weather either drops back to a Calm Storm or briefly clears into sunny conditions so you can reset.

Dust Devils, bosses, and the Scoured Hunter

Dust Devils are a group of Rikers exploiting the storm. Kill Squads spawn on a six-minute timer in groups of four named enemies that actively hunt you across the map. Their modifiers are built to punish long-range play and reward aggression, so closing the gap is the whole strategy.

Your distanceEffect on Dust Devils
0–10 metersThey take 50% more damage; no status resistance
11–25 metersThey take 20% more damage; no status resistance
5–25 metersYour damage reduced by 20%
26 meters and beyondYour damage reduced by 50%; they gain 80% status resistance

Push into the 0 to 10 meter band whenever you can. That strips their status resistance and lands the 50% damage bonus, which makes close-range weapons and aggressive positioning far stronger than long-range poking. During a Raging Dust Storm, Dust Devils spawn continuously with up to six active at once, and you can clear as many as 48 enemies in a single Raging Storm. Spawns pause while you stand still, so keep moving to keep the kills flowing.

Clear 50 common enemies and one of two bosses spawns. Pall hides in the storm as a sniper using Sniper Turret and Decoy tech and stays invisible to Pulse scanning. Black Lung is a tank who lays down heavy LMG fire backed by an Artillery Turret. When a boss appears you can call for backup. Each drops a Storm Key every time you defeat it, plus a unique mask on your first kill.

The Scoured Hunter is a tougher threat that roams Lower Manhattan after a Raging Dust Storm subsides. It carries Storm Keys and wears a distinctive mask you can claim by defeating it. You can also break up to 20 hidden loot caches scattered across the map for Gear Cache rewards. Dust Devils repair those caches daily, so they can be farmed again.

How to farm Storm Keys fast

Keys from Kill Squads are guaranteed, but the number of kills needed scales with difficulty. Higher difficulty means fewer kills per key, so run the hardest tier you can clear quickly.

DifficultyKills per Storm Key
Normal14
Hard14
Challenging12
Heroic10

Your first 150 kills each day count double toward keys, cutting the required kills per key in half. Clear that daily boost before anything else, then keep farming Kill Squads and add Pall, Black Lung, and the Scoured Hunter whenever they appear for extra drops. Because the daily boost resets, logging in every day is the fastest way to build a key stockpile.

Event Vendor rewards: Apparel and Gear Caches

The Event Vendor in Haven trades Storm Keys for two cache types, each with a different purpose. Apparel Caches hold cosmetics with no duplicates, so every key spent moves you closer to the full set. Gear Caches roll for weapons, gear, and rare Prototype drops.

The Dust Storm event splits loot into Apparel Caches and Gear Caches.

Apparel Caches

Apparel Caches contain vanity items only, with no duplicates, across 43 items in total. Collect them all to unlock the Black Blizzard Scanner Pulse Skill VFX. The set covers these outfits and headgear.

  • Wired Outfit — headgear, shirt, pants, shoes
  • Vagabond Outfit — glasses, shirt, pants, boots
  • Parched Outfit — headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, shoes
  • Breathless Outfit — headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, boots
  • Breathless (Grey) Outfit — headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, boots
  • Yield Outfit — headgear, shirt, pants, shoes
  • Parched Headgear — Black/Red, Green, and Orange variants
  • Black Lung Headgear — Black/Red, Green, and Orange variants

Gear Caches and the Rabid D50

Gear Caches mix returning and event-specific loot, including Named items, Exotics, and a rare shot at Prototype gear. The headline drop is the new event weapon, the Rabid D50, a Named D50 pistol. Its Foam At The Mouth talent applies Ensnare to the next enemy you hit after a headshot kill, then amplifies weapon damage by 25% against Ensnared targets, which suits precision builds that chain headshots.

The Exotic pool can roll Caduceus, Nurse’s Kneepads, Tinkerer, Tempest Blacklisters, Sheriff, Provocator, and Birdie’s Quick Fix. Premium Credits can also be used to buy cache keys directly if you want to speed up the apparel collection.

Community and personal Storm Key milestones

Every agent feeds a shared, cross-platform Community Challenge measured by total Storm Keys earned across the whole player base. Each milestone unlocks a Dust Storm reward for everyone who took part, and joining late still qualifies as long as you contribute before the goal is reached. A separate personal track rewards you based on your own key count.

Prima Donna Exotic and other event extras

Outside the Storm Key loop, the Paradise Lost Incursion has been refreshed with a new Exotic Marksman Rifle, the Prima Donna. It drops the same way as the existing Ouroboros Exotic and does not replace it, so both can roll from the same encounters. You get it from the final Incursion chest with a higher chance, or at a low chance from the named bosses Wright, Martinez, and Johnson.

The event also folds in a returning Realism Mode set in the Warlords of New York campaign, the new McMillan Reservoir Assault Classified Assignment back in Washington, D.C., creator collaboration Project Chains, and a rotation of multiplier events. Note: if you hit the MIKE-01 error code, the servers are offline for maintenance rather than a fault on your end, so wait for the window to finish before troubleshooting your own connection.

You’ll know your farming worked when Storm Keys appear in your inventory and the Event Vendor in Haven lets you exchange them for caches. Keep clearing your daily boosted kills, chase the bosses and the Scoured Hunter, and the milestone rewards will stack up well before the event closes on August 11.
