Your pickaxe decides which ores you can actually break in The Forge. Each node has a Mine Power requirement, and if your tool falls short, you will swing forever without collecting anything. Beyond raw power, pickaxes carry Luck Boost (better rare ore odds), Mine Speed, and rune slots for extra upgrades. The lineup spans four regions, from Stonewake's Cross up through the Crimson Sakura Isles on Island 4 and the Spirit Cave.
Stonewake's Cross pickaxes (Island 1)
Every player starts with the Stone Pickaxe for free. The Bronze, Iron, Gold, and Platinum tiers come straight from Miner Fred's Shop. Two stand out from the shop path: Stonewake's Pickaxe is wedged in a boulder at the center of the Inner Cave and gives you 3 rune slots very early, while the Arcane Pickaxe is the big power jump and needs the Unknown Key from the Lost Guitar quest to open the Fallen Angel's Cave.

Forgotten Kingdom pickaxes (Island 2)
Once you unlock the portal tool and reach the Forgotten Kingdom, the shop sells the Cobalt through Lightite tiers. Magma comes from the NPC Amber near the Ashen Passage, and the Demonic Pickaxe needs Skal's quest to earn the Demonite Key that opens the Demon's Hideout in the Volcanic Depths.

Frostspire Expanse pickaxes (Island 3)
The Frostspire shop runs from Tungsten up to Void, with Snow, Frost, and Void gated behind Sensei Moro's quest chain (Quests 6, 7, and 8). The standout end-game tools here are hidden. The Prismatic Pickaxe sits behind ice in the Underwater Chamber, which you break with a Void Pickaxe. The Dragon Head Pickaxe is the reward for clearing three NPC quests inside the Raven Cave, and the Heavenly Pickaxe drops at the end of the Secret Maze.

The Heavenly Pickaxe holds the highest Luck Boost on this island at +85%, which makes it the rare-ore farming pick even though the Dragon Head edges it out on raw power.
Crimson Sakura and Spirit Cave pickaxes (Island 4)
Island 4 carries the strongest tools in the game. The Bamboo through Kitsune line is sold from the shop, scaling smoothly from 370 up to 1,000 Mine Power. The Spirit Pickaxe waits at the entrance of the Jade Spirit Cave, and the Yin-Yang Pickaxe is found deeper inside the Spirit Cave near the Shogun NPC. These two carry 4 rune slots and the highest Luck Boosts available.

How to boost Mine Power without buying a new pickaxe
If your tool falls just short of a node, you do not always need a higher-tier pickaxe. Two systems close the gap.
Power Runes: Use the Rune Maker to slot Power Runes into your pickaxe. Each rune tier adds a flat Mine Power bonus, so a mid-tier tool like the Mythril Pickaxe can reach into a higher node bracket. More rune slots mean more stacked bonuses, which is why the 4-slot tools scale so well.
Critical Mining: While mining, weakpoints spawn randomly on the rock. Hitting one deals extra mining damage, letting a weaker pickaxe catch up to the output of a stronger one. It will not bypass a Mine Power requirement, but it speeds up nodes you can already break.
For a fast, gold-efficient route, you do not need to buy every pickaxe. A clean upgrade path runs from the Iron Pickaxe to Stonewake's Pickaxe for early rune slots, then to Mythril for the power spike, and into the Arcane Pickaxe before you transition off Island 1. From there, follow Sensei Moro's quests into the Frostspire end-game tools, then save toward the Crimson Sakura and Spirit Cave pickaxes once you reach Island 4.
