The Subway Fault Walkthrough in Control Resonant (Reach Ability)

Every objective, the subway route, the train sections, and the exact moment Dylan unlocks the Reach traversal ability.

Every objective, the subway route, the train sections, and the exact moment Dylan unlocks the Reach traversal ability.

The Subway Fault sits in the middle of the Search for Jesse chain in Control Resonant, and it is the mission that hands Dylan the Reach ability. Everything else in it — the mold tunnels, the phantom trains, the Astral Plane platforming — is built around that one payoff, and a few later routes in Manhattan simply assume you already have it.

Quick answer: Trigger the Jesse vision in the northeast Evacuation Zone, drop into the subway, follow the tunnels to the CRT television, then talk to Jesse in the Astral Plane to unlock Reach.

What Reach does and what you need before starting

Reach is a traversal ability that latches Dylan onto the glowing gravity orbs scattered around Manhattan, pulling him across gaps that no staircase or fire escape can cover. The orbs sit above streets, between buildings, and around rooftops, so the city opens up noticeably the moment the mission ends. Once unlocked, it stays available permanently.

  • Shift is required, which comes from completing The Incursion Fault in the West Incursion Zone.
  • The Subway Fault is a main mission, not optional content, and it belongs to the Search for Jesse chain.
  • Recursions and Iterations softblocks at the island of orange pipes and pushes you to find a fault in the Evacuation Zone.
  • Elevate is not mandatory, but it makes one drop in the subway far easier to control.
  • The Underpass Fault cannot be finished until Reach is in hand.

The quest title in the upper-left corner is the fastest way to confirm which stage you are on, since the Evacuation Zone can hold other active markers at the same time.

How to trigger the mission in the northeast Evacuation Zone

Get to the Evacuation Zone. If you are coming off the blocked route in the Underpass, use a Fast Travel Door rather than walking it — Halfway Trail connects straight through to Main Street in the Evacuation Zone.

Head for the northeast corner of the region. Most of the direct roads into that pocket are collapsed, so cut through the mold-infested parking structure instead of hunting for a clear street.
Step out of the parking structure and turn right. Dylan gets a vision of Jesse, the mission starts on its own, and the objective changes to investigating the subway. The entrance below glows with green and yellow energy, so it is hard to miss.

Take the stairs down, push through the mezzanine turnstiles, and follow the turquoise mold-covered passages into the deeper tunnels.

Keep going until the Patterned section appears, where the rail track runs vertically instead of flat. Time your jumps across the gap to land on the far side.
Stay on the tracks until the tunnel gives way, then jump toward the shaft wall instead of dropping straight through the second opening below. Trigger Elevate while falling to steer Dylan onto the intended landing spot.
From the landing area, leap into the hole coated with mold. Continue through the tunnels to a warped station with routes overhead and underneath; descend to the lower platform, then use the tunnel marked by yellow light.
Move through the train section in short hops. Trains run down this stretch on a loop, so wait behind a lower platform, let one pass, sprint to the next covered alcove, and repeat.

A train collision returns Dylan to this section’s beginning. Let the train complete its pass before proceeding, since that takes less time than trying to rush past it.

Clear the combat room full of Mold enemies at the end of the run, then step into the large chamber where trains appear to be moving in every direction. The layout looks worse than it is. Ignore the edges and jump onto the stationary trains in the middle to work your way down.
Land on the mold-covered platform at the bottom of the pit, marked by its blue glow, and kill the enemies waiting there.
At the far end of the tunnel beyond the platform, interact with the old CRT television. It pulls Dylan from the subway into the Astral Plane, changing the objective to entering the fault.

The fungal caverns along this route hold harvestable resources, including Bloomed Spore Mother and Mold Blight, so clearing the mold growth on the way through is not wasted time.

How to unlock Reach and finish the ritual

The Astral Plane section is a linear golden-grass realm. Follow the floating train tracks to the subway car platform, where a cutscene puts Dylan face to face with Jesse.
Talk to her. The objective becomes helping Jesse complete the ritual, and Reach unlocks right there. Everything after this point is a tutorial for it.
Use Reach on the glowing points to cross the floating islands toward the TV console. Activating that console flips gravity, which is where Shift and Reach start working together — grapple to the gravity anomalies, then climb the inverted subway architecture.
Keep grappling across the platforms with the golden autumn trees, climb the staircase at the top, and reach the glowing sky vortex where the ritual plays out. Interact with the final CRT television to leave the Astral Plane.

How to confirm the mission is complete

The scene fades on Jesse’s last line and an on-screen banner reads Quest Completed: THE SUBWAY FAULT. Reach also appears permanently in Dylan’s ability set at that point, so if the banner did not fire, test a gravity orb — being able to latch onto one confirms the unlock landed.

Getting out is simply a matter of retracing the route you used on the way in through the Patterned subway. From there the objective points you back toward the Underpass, where the island of orange pipes is finally reachable and The Underpass Fault can continue — and every gravity orb you passed earlier in Manhattan is now a usable shortcut.
