In Skellige, Geralt can take on the secondary quest Free Spirit on Snidhall Isle, where he rescues Ivar from a furious warrior. Ivar loves Irma, a Freya priestess who has vowed to remain chaste, and asks Geralt to find books that could point to a religious exception. He needs five particular volumes, all available for purchase from merchants.
Quick answer: Collect five books — Religion and Life, The Curious Cases of Virtuous Vegga, Change Your Life! A Handbook, The Cult of Freya, and Tristianna and Isador — then hand them to Ivar one at a time on Snidhall Isle to finish the quest.

Start Free Spirit on Snidhall Isle
Find the quest giver on the island off Ard Skellig, north of the Ancient Crypt fast travel point. The island has no signpost. For the quickest route, take a boat from Ancient Crypt or Kaer Trolde Harbor, cross the water, and search the southern shore.
You will find two Skelligers who both show quest markers, apparently fighting. Only the man in the blue tunic matters. You must step in and kill the warrior before he cuts Ivar down, otherwise the quest never begins.
Once the battle is over, Ivar says his assailant is the brother of Irma, the priestess he wants to marry. He asks Geralt to find books about religious customs in hopes of releasing her from her vows. Rescuing Ivar and talking to him grants 25 XP.
Since there is no fast travel point on the island, buy every book first and deliver them all in a single return trip.

Each book costs 10 Crowns and sits with a fixed vendor. Check your inventory first, because long-time players often already carry one or two from earlier looting or shopping.

|---|---|---|
| Religion and Life | Velen | Merchant near the entrance of Crow’s Perch, by the bridge |
| Tristianna and Isador | Velen | Merchant stall by the signpost in Lindenvale |
| The Cult of Freya | Novigrad | Eternal Fire “priest” (an alchemist) at Electors’ Square |

| Change Your Life! A Handbook | Novigrad | Loan Shark in The Bits, near the Oxenfurt Gate / Southern Gate |
Novigrad vendors
The Cult of Freya comes from the man posing as an Eternal Fire preacher in Electors’ Square, who is really an alchemist hiding from the purge. He stands in the corner east of the fountain and does not appear at night, so visit during daylight.
You can buy The Curious Cases of Virtuous Vegga at the shop in Gildorf, an affluent district southeast of the St. Gregory’s Bridge signpost. The shop sits by a barbershop and notice board. The seller also carries other quest items taken from the sorcerer Aeramas.
Change Your Life! A Handbook sits with the Loan Shark inside his shop in The Bits, slightly southwest of the Oxenfurt Gate fast travel point.

Velen vendors
Religion and Life is available from the trader in the lower section of Crow’s Perch’s fort, near the bridge entrance. The Devil’s Pit merchant has carried it as well since Patch 4.0.
Tristianna and Isador is a tale of forbidden love carried by the merchant in Lindenvale, at the stall beside the signpost.
Deliver the books and complete the quest

You know it worked when the QUEST COMPLETED: FREE SPIRIT notice appears and you receive 50 XP. If the completion does not fire after handing over all five, reload and pass them individually across separate dialogue prompts.
Ivar may turn up again later in Novigrad, on the docks in Silverton, west of St. Gregory’s Bridge and close to Odrin’s usual spot. He says his search has led him to the city and that he hopes to find a job aboard a ship. This is the final encounter with him.
