Thunder Bluff Mage Trainer Location: Where to Find Thurston Xane

The Mage trainers in Thunder Bluff are not on any of the open mesas. They sit inside The Pools of Vision, a cave tucked under Spirit Rise on the northwest side of the city, alongside the Priest trainers. If you are looking for Thurston Xane specifically, he stands on a middle rock ledge next to the green pools.

Quick answer: Cross the lower bridge to Spirit Rise, enter The Pools of Vision cave, and find Thurston Xane <Mage Trainer> on the middle ridge at roughly 25.2, 20.9.

Where the Thunder Bluff Mage trainers are located

Thunder Bluff is a set of connected mesas linked by rope bridges. The Mage and Priest trainers share a single underground space called The Pools of Vision, reached from Spirit Rise in the northwest. Tauren cannot be Mages, so these trainers exist for the other Horde races who visit the city.

Three Mage trainers are found inside the cavern, each in a slightly different spot along the pools. The table below lists them with their in-game coordinates.

Any of the three teaches the same Mage abilities, so pick whichever is closest when you drop into the cavern. Father Cobb, a Priest trainer, stands right beside Thurston Xane on the same ledge.

How to reach The Pools of Vision from the center of Thunder Bluff

Start on the central mesa and head toward the western side of the city, aiming for Spirit Rise in the northwest. You can open the zone map to confirm the direction before you set off.

Reach Spirit Rise by crossing the lower rope bridge as it slopes southwest downhill. The upper bridge goes to a different location, so use the lower one.

Once you step off the bridge onto Spirit Rise, turn right and follow the rocky ledge past the Bluffwatcher guards. You are looking for the cave opening labeled The Pools of Vision, roughly at 30.6, 30.2.

Head down the narrow tunnel into the cavern. Inside you will see glowing green water pools, giant mushrooms, and wooden walkways crossing over the water.

Cross the first short wooden bridge past Clarice Foster, then drop down from the walkway onto the lower earthen ledge below near the mushrooms. Thurston Xane stands on this middle ridge beside the green pool.

Confirm you found the right trainer

Target the NPC and check the nameplate. The correct one reads Thurston Xane <Mage Trainer>. Speaking with him opens the training window where you can learn new spells and higher ranks as you level up. If the ledge you land on shows a Priest trainer instead, Thurston Xane is right next to them on the same rock.

Where to find the Thunder Bluff portal trainer

The Mage portal trainer shares the same cave. Birgitte Cranston stands near the upper pool in the back at about 22.5, 16.9. She teaches Teleport: Thunder Bluff at level 30 and Portal: Thunder Bluff at level 50, so make a short trip deeper into The Pools of Vision once you reach those levels.
