Horde characters who want to pick up Blacksmithing in Undercity only need to reach one room. The city’s smithy sits inside the War Quarter, the ring on the northeastern side of the inner circle, and it holds the trainer, the supply vendor, a heavy armor merchant, and the forge and anvil you need for crafting.
Quick answer: Basil Frye, the Horde Blacksmithing trainer, stands in the War Quarter of Undercity at roughly 60.1, 28.7, right beside the forge. He teaches Blacksmithing up to skill 75.
Basil Frye location in the War Quarter
Basil Frye carries the title <Journeyman Blacksmith> and stands in the smithy area of the War Quarter, under the hanging Blacksmith sign. On the Undercity world map his spot reads as roughly 60.1, 28.7, in the northeast portion of the ring.

Undercity is built as a set of concentric rings, so the quickest way to orient yourself is to open the map and look for your marker in the northeast quarter. Once the dot sits in that section, the forge room is only a few steps away.

Blacksmithing training requirements and skill caps
- Apprentice Blacksmithing requires character level 5.
- There is no prior skill requirement, so a fresh character can learn it immediately.
- The training fee is 10 copper.
- Basil Frye takes you to a maximum skill of 75.
Both Undercity trainers occupy the same room, so once your skill passes 75 you do not have to leave the War Quarter to keep going.
| Trainer | Title | Coordinates | Trains to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basil Frye | Journeyman Blacksmith | 60.1, 28.7 | Skill 75 |
| James Van Brunt | Expert Blacksmith | 61.2, 29.9 | Past skill 75 |
Training past skill 75 with James Van Brunt
James Van Brunt is the second Horde blacksmithing trainer in the War Quarter, a level 35 humanoid tied to the Undercity faction. He teaches the Journeyman rank at skill 50 and carries a long list of trainer-taught plans, from Copper Chain Pants at skill 1 up through bronze weapons, grinding stones, and the Golden Skeleton Key at skill 150.
Trainer ranks work differently depending on which version of the game you are playing. Patch 2.3.0 changed blacksmithing trainers so they could teach all the way to Artisan, and Patch 4.0.3a removed trainer ranks entirely along with the separate armorsmith and weaponsmith specialty trainers.
Vendors, forge, and anvil in the same room
The smithy is a one-stop setup. Everything you need to learn the profession, buy the basic reagents, and start crafting sits within a few steps of the trainer.
- Samuel Van Brunt <Blacksmithing Supplies> sells profession reagents.
- Mirelle Tremayne <Heavy Armor Merchant> stocks plate and mail gear.
- A forge and anvil sit in the same room, marked by the Blacksmith sign overhead.

Confirm the profession was learned
After paying the fee, Apprentice Blacksmithing no longer appears in Basil Frye’s Development Skills list, and Blacksmithing shows up among your professions with a skill bar starting at 1. If the option is still listed and greyed out, your character has not yet reached level 5.
From there you can step straight to the anvil beside him and begin working through the early copper recipes without leaving the War Quarter.
