The Deep North added three endgame armor sets to Valheim that live entirely in the frozen north. The Protector, Vanguard, and Caller sets carry the highest base armor in the game, but each one demands rare moulds, specialized stations, and a long grind for materials before you can wear a single piece.
Quick answer: Build a Frigid Kiln and a Frost Foundry from 20 Frost Cores, farm the matching armour mould from Krigen or Hexen enemies inside Mörkhalla, cast the piece at a level 5 Black Forge, then finish it on a Frost Foundry fueled by Liquid Frost.

What each set does and who it is for
The three cast sets split cleanly by playstyle. Protector is the heavy defensive option, Vanguard is medium armor built for mobile melee, and Caller is the mage set that trades raw armor for Eitr regeneration. Their torso pieces show the gap in defense at a glance.
| Set | Role | Torso base armor | Key property |
|---|---|---|---|
| Protector | Defense-focused melee | 44 | Breastplate resists Frost |
| Vanguard | Mobile weapon builds | 34 | Set effect boosts stamina, regen, and Pierce |
| Caller | Magic builds | 22 | Robes give +60% Eitr Regen |
Fully upgraded, these sets sit on par with top Ashlands gear and then pull ahead. Pick the set that matches how you already fight before committing rare drops, since finishing one coherent loadout is far faster than chasing all three at once.

Nothing in this chain works without the two frost stations. The Frigid Kiln turns Ice into Liquid Frost, and the Frost Foundry uses that Liquid Frost to harden your armour casts into finished gear. You cannot skip either one.
Note: While you are clearing Winding Tunnels, break the destructible objects inside. Intricate Key moulds drop randomly from them, and you need an Intricate Key before you can reach the moulds later.

Farm the armour moulds in Mörkhalla
This is the hardest gate. Every cast piece requires its own matching mould, and moulds only drop very rarely from Krigen and Hexen enemies inside Mörkhalla, a dungeon exclusive to the Deep North. Krigen drop Vanguard (medium) moulds, and Hexen drop Caller (mage) moulds.
Note: Moulds for the heavy Protector set do not currently drop from these enemies. Protector helmets can occasionally be found in villages, so the full Protector set is the least reliable to complete right now.

Gather the crafting materials
Once the moulds are in hand, you still need resources to build the casts. The totals below cover a full set of helmet, chest, and leg pieces, on top of the individual moulds for each slot.
| Set | Total materials |
|---|---|
| Protector | 60 Bloodgold, 20 Moose Hide, 8 Leather Straps |
| Vanguard | 24 Bloodgold, 9 Seal Pelt, 5 Moose Hide, 1 Moose Sinew, 12 Elaking Hair Bundle |
| Caller | 12 Bloodgold, 2 Moose Sinew, 12 Moose Hide, 1 Moose Trophy, 13 Nornathread |
Bloodgold is the material you will spend the most time on. Defeat Gammeltrolls, then blow up their petrified bodies with Ember Charges to get Petrified Tissue. Smelt that Petrified Tissue in a Blast Furnace to produce Bloodgold.
The rest of the ingredients come from Deep North wildlife and enemies. Moose provide Hide, Sinew, and a Trophy, Seals give Seal Pelt, Elakings drop Elaking Hair Bundle, Krigen supply Leather Straps, and Hexen are the source of Nornathread.

Cast the pieces at a level 5 Black Forge
With moulds and materials ready, the next stage turns them into casts. Casts are the unfinished, mould-shaped version of each armour piece and are made at a fully upgraded Black Forge.

Finish the armour on the Frost Foundry
The final stage hardens each cast into wearable armour using the frost stations you built earlier. Keep the casts in your inventory and make sure both the Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry are placed and functional.
You will know the process worked when the finished armour piece appears in place of the cast and can be picked up and worn. Upgrade each piece afterward, and the Deep North sets outclass every other armor in the game.
