The Valley of Screams is the one place in VV: Ultimatum where you can take off a Spirit Charm. Once a Charm is equipped, it binds to your character and stays locked in your loadout. The Valley of Screams breaks that bind, letting you free up notches and reshape your build.

Quick answer: Find a purple portal that spawns randomly across the world, enter it to reach the Valley of Screams, then use the blue light or pedestal inside to remove the Charms you select. There is no menu button to unequip a Charm anywhere else.

Why you need the Valley of Screams

Spirit Charms are passive modifiers that change how your character fights. Each Charm gives a benefit, and most carry a trade-off as well. Because equipped Charms are bound, you cannot simply swap them in your inventory the way you switch armor pieces. The only release point is the Valley of Screams.

This matters most when you hit the notch cap. Every Charm costs notches equal to its tier, and your safe limit is three total notches. Once you go above three, your maximum HP starts dropping by 6% for every extra notch. If a high-tier Charm is bleeding too much of your health, removing it through the Valley of Screams is the fix.

How to access the Valley of Screams

Watch for a purple portal as you move through the world. These portals do not have a fixed location and appear at random, so you may need to keep exploring until one shows up.
Enter the purple portal. It transports you into the Valley of Screams, the dedicated space for unbinding Charms.
Use the blue light or the pedestal inside to choose which Charms to remove. Pick the Charms you want gone, confirm, and they leave your loadout.

You know it worked when the removed Charm no longer occupies a notch and any HP penalty tied to it disappears. Your maximum HP should return to its normal value once your total notch count drops back to three or below.

Valley of Screams versus Charm merging

Removing a Charm and merging two Charms are separate systems with different locations. The Valley of Screams only unbinds Charms. Merging happens at a secret laboratory in Hueco Mundo and requires an Energy Cell plus two Charms.

Keep in mind that a merged Charm combines into one slot but keeps the total tier cost. A Tier 3 and Tier 2 merge becomes Tier 5, which still eats five notches and triggers the -12% HP penalty. If that math no longer fits your build, the Valley of Screams remains your way out.
