Vesna in Genshin Impact: Should You Pull C1 or Her R1 Weapon?

A damage-backed breakdown of Vesna's first Constellation versus Beyond the Chrysalis, and which one pays off more.

A damage-backed breakdown of Vesna’s first Constellation versus Beyond the Chrysalis, and which one pays off more.

Vesna is the first limited five-star built around the Stellar Swirl mechanic, a 5-star Anemo Sword DPS added in the first half of Genshin Impact 7.1. Her damage scales hard with vertical investment, so once you have her at C0, the real question is where the next primogems go: her first Constellation, or her signature sword Beyond the Chrysalis. Both push her damage up, but they do it in very different ways.

Quick answer: If you can only pick one, get R1 (Beyond the Chrysalis). The weapon’s stacked CRIT DMG and Stellar Swirl buffs outpace what C1 adds, and it clears content faster in testing.

What Vesna’s C1 changes

Vesna’s Elemental Skill is her main damage engine. Using it puts her into an enhanced state where she can fire off special Elemental Skill hits that deal direct Stellar Swirl DMG, each hit landing for more than the last. At base, she gets three of these special skills per rotation.

Her first Constellation, Winter’s Farewell Feast, adds a fourth. That means one extra high-value special Elemental Skill every rotation, plus a bit more on-field time to squeeze it in. The Constellation also grants an extra 20% Stellar Swirl reaction DMG while she is in the enhanced state.

  • One extra special Elemental Skill per rotation (four instead of three).
  • The first highest-level Windborne Sword each enhanced state costs no Sword Essence.
  • +20% Stellar Swirl reaction DMG while enhanced.

It is a solid, straightforward upgrade. More hits and more reaction damage, all folded into her existing rotation without changing how you play her.

What Beyond the Chrysalis (R1) gives Vesna

Beyond the Chrysalis is a strong stat stick before its passive even kicks in, with 674 base ATK and a 44.1% CRIT DMG secondary stat. The passive, Dance of Wings Unbound, hands out three effects in sequence every time Vesna uses her Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst.

  • Winds of Devotion: +56% CRIT DMG for 10 seconds.
  • Winds of Defiance: +36% Stellar Swirl reaction DMG for 10 seconds.
  • Winds of Plenty: restores 5 Elemental Energy, up to once every 4 seconds.

Because Vesna leans on her Skill constantly in combat, she cycles through all three buffs every rotation. Stacked together with the weapon’s base CRIT DMG, that pushes her toward roughly 100% CRIT DMG and around 20 Elemental Energy per rotation. The energy return also loosens up her Energy Recharge requirement, so you can shift more substats toward CRIT and ATK.

C1 vs R1 damage comparison

Side-by-side testing makes the gap clear. Against the Heretic of the False Moon, the numbers below track her top-level Windborne Sword hit and her Elemental Burst, both dealing Stellar Swirl DMG. The domain column is her clear time against the Battle-Hardened Domovoy Sculptor.

C1R0276,747406,47280s
C1R1359,055527,36271s

Start from the baseline of a bare C0R0 Vesna. Her Windborne Sword lands for 248,286 and her Burst for 361,197, and she takes 87 seconds to clear the domain.

Now add just the weapon. At C0R1, her Skill jumps to 321,144 and her Burst to 422,179, and the domain clear drops to 73 seconds. That is a large step from the sword alone.

Compare that to adding only the Constellation. C1R0 lands 276,747 on her Skill and 406,472 on her Burst, with an 80-second domain clear. The extra special skill helps, but on every measure it trails what the signature weapon delivers on its own.

Running both, C1R1 is the ceiling at 359,055 and 527,362 with a 71-second clear, so if you can afford both, take both. But the head-to-head that matters is C0R1 versus C1R0, and the weapon wins on burst damage, skill damage, and clear speed.

These figures come from a pre-release test environment, so exact numbers can shift when the build goes live. The ordering between C1 and R1, however, is consistent.

The verdict for a main-DPS Vesna

Beyond the Chrysalis is the pick. C1 is a genuine upgrade thanks to the extra special Elemental Skill and the 20% reaction bonus, but the roughly 100% CRIT DMG, 36% Stellar Swirl DMG, and free energy from the sword simply do more for her damage per rotation. The energy also relaxes her build so more of her substats can go to CRIT and ATK. Prioritize R1 first, and treat C1 as the next step up once the weapon is in hand.
