“Hole” is the famous real-life answer to this riddle, and it is sitting right there in the list as bait. Picking it will not progress the quest. The intended choice in VV Ultimatum is Ambition, so ignore your instinct and select that one.
The alternate riddle variant
The Nameless Man does not always ask the same question. Some players instead receive “What is always in front of you, but can’t be seen?” This is a separate variant of the same encounter, and the answer to it has not been confirmed yet. If you draw the Ambition riddle, the steps above are all you need.
Note: the answer is fixed text selection, not a combat or item check, so there is nothing to farm or unlock beforehand. Once you choose Ambition, the dialogue accepts it and the quest continues.
