Chapter Three of the Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign is called Siege, and it is the mission where the story finally stops running. After two chapters of escape and loss beneath Lordaeron’s Capital City, Garek Bandarion arrives at Andorhal with orders to hold the line, and the chapter’s cinematics do the heavy lifting on who he is now and who he is about to defy.
Quick answer: Siege has five story cutscenes across roughly three and a half minutes, covering the cult’s assault on Andorhal, Uther’s arrival, Ras Frostwhisper’s retreat to Stratholme, and Garek and Ilastar’s decision to chase him.
Where Chapter 3: Siege falls in the campaign
Siege is the third chapter of the prologue arc, The Last Days of Lordaeron, which follows the Capital City Guard through Arthas’ homecoming rather than the Forsaken themselves. Chapter 1, Homecoming, covers the throne room and the escape; Chapter 2, Treachery, is the sewer run where Landen dies at Baron Rivendare’s hands and Garek earns his surname. The loading screen for Siege shows the road from Uther’s camp to Andorhal, with the title card and the line “A few days later, at the outskirts of Andorhal…”
Mechanically, it is the first mission that looks like a traditional Warcraft RTS map. You reclaim settlements around Andorhal, then hold four towers in a king-of-the-hill objective inside the city while Uther’s paladins work the flanks outside the walls.

Who speaks in the Siege cutscenes
| Character | Role in Chapter 3 |
|---|---|
| Garek Bandarion | Human lieutenant leading the defense |
| Ilastar Songbreeze | Elven cleric of the Andorhal Militia |
| Uther the Lightbringer | Brings reinforcements, gives the orders |
| Ras Frostwhisper | Cult of the Damned necromancer, still alive |
Ilastar is a male high elf with long white hair, blue and silver robes, and a staff. Garek is the bearded human warrior in blue and gold plate. Neither is a custom avatar — the campaign hands you fixed heroes.
Chapter 3: Siege cutscene timeline
What each cutscene establishes
The cult reaches the gates
The chapter opens on the wrong side of the wall. Members of the Cult of the Damned and an abomination batter the wooden gates of Andorhal while the defenders inside are already outnumbered. It is a short scene, and its only job is to set a clock running.
Garek arrives in the woods
Garek and his footmen move through the treeline outside the city. The dialogue sets the whole mission’s terms — they are not here to win, they are here to buy Andorhal time until Uther can gather troops and return.

Meeting Ilastar Songbreeze
Rescuing Ilastar is the mission’s first objective, and the cutscene that follows is where the bad news lands. Garek confirms that Prince Arthas has burned the capital, which reframes Andorhal from a border town under attack into one of the last places still standing. The two agree to hold until Uther returns.

Uther arrives and the Silver Hand is gone
Dwarven riflemen, elven priests and Uther the Lightbringer march into camp, and the relief lasts about ten seconds. Uther explains that the Knights of the Silver Hand have been disbanded, which is why the reinforcement column is so thin. The city bell rings mid-conversation, signalling that the cult is already inside, and Uther splits the force — Garek and Ilastar hold the inner city, the paladins flank the cultists outside.
The paladins directing troops at the walls include Sage Truthbearer, Ballador the Bright and Maxwell Tyrosus alongside Uther, all of whom have history elsewhere in the Warcraft timeline.
Ras Frostwhisper taunts and runs
Once the towers are held, the necromancer Ras Frostwhisper appears in the centre of Andorhal on a skeletal steed. He is presented here as a living Dark Wizard, not yet the lich players know, and he does not put up much of a fight. Before he can be killed he teleports away, declaring that “power everlasting” waits for him inside Stratholme.

The aftermath and the split with Uther
Uther declares Andorhal secure but warns that rebuilding will take time. Garek pushes to march on Stratholme, since that is Baron Rivendare’s seat of power and Rivendare killed Landen in the sewers. Uther refuses and tells him to trust the Light’s judgment.

The closing scene is the one that matters for the rest of the campaign. Garek and Ilastar agree between themselves to ride for Stratholme immediately, without Uther’s approval, chasing retribution rather than orders. Chapter 3 ends on that choice.

What Siege sets up for Chapter 4: Vengeance
Chapter 4 opens with Garek, Ilastar and a small band of soldiers camped outside Stratholme, hunting Rivendare’s head. Ilastar wonders aloud how many more cities Arthas will leave burning; Garek blames Rivendare for setting it in motion. Ilastar takes the side entrance to raise the portcullis, and the mission reuses a heavily modified version of the Culling of Stratholme map.
Frostwhisper’s line about power everlasting pays off there too. Players watch him ascend into a lich during the chapter, kill him, and hear him insist as he falls that he cannot be destroyed so easily.
How to play Chapter 3 yourself
Forsaken Kingdom released on September 12, 2026 and requires Warcraft III: Reforged to play. The standalone campaign runs $29.99, with a combo bundle that includes the base game at $49.99, and it unlocks the prologue, three campaign chapters and the neutral Forsaken Paladin tavern hero. The Patch 3.0 Definitive Edition update — new graphics mode, a 24-unit selection cap and the revamped World Editor — is free for anyone who already has Reforged access.
If you are only chasing the story, Siege is the chapter where the prologue’s tone turns. Everything before it is survival; from the final cutscene onward, Garek is acting against the Light’s own commander, and the campaign treats that as a decision with consequences rather than a heroic flourish.
