Warframe Haalvu Build: Best Mods for the Sentient Rifle

The mod setup, elements, and mechanics that make the most of Haalvu's self-charging battery and auto-targeting burst mode.

The mod setup, elements, and mechanics that make the most of Haalvu’s self-charging battery and auto-targeting burst mode.

Haalvu is a Sentient multi-barreled rifle that deals pure Tau damage and works best as a daily-content generalist. It runs on a self-recharging battery instead of ammo pickups, and its alt-fire splits the gun into floating rifles that auto-target nearby enemies. The strongest all-round setup leans on a Viral and Heat status build backed by Galvanized mods.

Quick answer: For the best generalist Haalvu build, run Primary Deadhead as your arcane with Galvanized Chamber, Galvanized Aptitude, Galvanized Scope, Hammer Shot, Rifle Elementalist, Malignant Force, Rime Rounds, and Thermite Rounds to land a Viral and Heat combination.

Haalvu stats and mechanics

Haalvu is a Mastery Rank 14 primary rifle with two innate Madurai polarities and a pre-installed Orokin Catalyst. Every shot deals Tau damage, which is the first time a player weapon uses this type. The Sentient status effect it applies does not stack on itself, but it makes future status effects from other sources more likely to proc, which opens up some priming interactions.

Critical multiplier2.5x (normal), 1.8x (alt-fire)

The battery works differently from a standard magazine. Haalvu does not use ammo pickups. After you stop firing, there is a 0.5-second delay, then it regenerates 300 rounds per second, refilling a fully drained battery in about half a second. You can also reload to instantly top off the full magazine at no cost. If the battery empties completely, the weapon enters a two-second reload animation that cannot be triggered manually.

Burst mode and auto-targeting

Pressing alt-fire swaps Haalvu between full-auto and burst mode. In burst mode, the barrels split into eight miniature floating rifles that fire two-shot bursts and lock onto up to four enemies within 40 degrees of the reticle and within 10 meters of you. Locked targets stay tracked as long as they remain within 60 degrees and 10 meters. The shots are hitscan, so they connect instantly.

Switching fire modes takes three seconds to complete and can be interrupted, and that swap speed scales with Reload Speed. Burst mode also costs more, using 1.5 ammo per shot for a total of 3 ammo per burst.

Note: Mirage’s Hall of Mirrors clones do not fire the homing burst projectiles. They fire the primary shot instead.

Best Haalvu build (1 Forma)

Haalvu does not carry IPS damage, so it is not a strong primer for other weapons, and its DPS ceiling sits below top auto-rifles like Tetra, Stahlta, or Battacor. Where it shines is as a consistent generalist, and the most reliable damage profile is a straightforward Viral and Heat build. Blast, Magnetic, and Electric mixes fall short by comparison. If you run a subsume like Nourish, you can shift toward Corrosive and Heat instead.

3Galvanized Scope
4Hammer Shot
5Rifle Elementalist
6Malignant Force
7Rime Rounds
8Thermite Rounds (or Magnetic Capacity for more raw, non-DoT power)

Primary Deadhead is the preferred arcane because Haalvu wants out-of-the-gate damage more than raw status stacking. Primary Crux is a common alternative if you want to build status chance instead, and Primary Debilitate is workable with a Corrosive and Blast variant, though that swap asks you to drop Hammer Shot or slot a Riven.

Tip: Galvanized Scope and Primary Deadhead both reward headshots, and there is a quirk to using them together on this weapon. Keep enemies at roughly 45 meters or more. At that range, the extra burst-mode rifles land headshots more consistently when you aim down sights, which keeps both stacks running.

If you lean away from raw damage mods, Galvanized Aptitude alone can feel weak in base Steel Path. Pairing Haalvu with a damage-buffing frame like Chroma, Rhino, or Mirage closes that gap.

Where Haalvu’s Sentient damage helps

The pure Tau spread has one standout use. It empowers the recently buffed Jade Stars, which gain a large boost with a full stack of the Sentient status. Outside of that niche synergy, treat Haalvu as a dependable everyday rifle rather than a spreadable primer in the mold of Cedo or Nukor.

How to get Haalvu

Haalvu was introduced in Hotfix 43.0.7 on July 11, 2026. It was earned as a TennoCon 2026 Twitch drop by watching the official Warframe channel for 30 consecutive minutes with a Twitch-linked account, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET on July 11th, 2026. The drop included a free weapon slot and a pre-installed Orokin Catalyst.

If you missed the drop window, no official return date is currently confirmed. Given how similar Sentient-themed items have been handled, it is a likely candidate to appear through Baro Ki’Teer or an upcoming Tau faction vendor down the line.
