How DarkDrop purchases work
Everything on DarkDrop is paid for in DOS Coin, so you need a steady flow of it before you can outfit yourself. You generate that currency by hijacking computers on VirtMesh and setting them to mine. Because several purchases are tiered, you cannot skip straight to the strongest version. A Tier V firewall, for example, only becomes available once Tiers I through IV are already bought.
The first in-game hour, from 9pm to 10pm, is the window to spend wisely. Killers on normal mode start moving at 9:30pm, and hackers can hit you at any point, so the goal is to convert early mining income into surveillance and network defenses before the pressure ramps up.
The three apps that run every run
VirtMesh, ShadowFetch, and A.C.R.S form the backbone of the whole game. VirtMesh lets you take over other machines to either mount them for access or mine them for DOS Coin. After the three core apps, a short list of purchases carries the most weight during the 9pm to 10pm setup window. This is when you build your perimeter and harden your network before the digital and physical threats arrive.
Backdoor Hack flips hack attempts back on the attacker. Beat off an incoming hack and you claim a share of their DOS Coin. Each Backdoor is single-use, but at 5 DOS it is trivial to replace, and the cost is earned back within about a minute of mining a hijacked computer on VirtMesh.
Because you constantly rotate one machine for browsing the dark net and another for mining, expanding your VirtMesh footprint pays off fast. Investing in VM Mount and VM Grid keeps the DOS Coin flowing and lowers the chance of being kicked off a machine you have taken over.
Motion Sensors are non-negotiable for surviving Lucas or Tanner. You can run up to six per session, so buy them as early as possible, two at a time.
