What the Mannequin Does in Deltarune Chapter 2

The 300 D$ armor with a “???” effect cuts Puppet/Cat damage by 35%, and you can only grab it before leaving Noelle.

The Mannequin is the one piece of armor in Deltarune that openly calls itself “Useless” and lists its effect as “???”, which is exactly why so many players walk past it. It is not a joke item. Behind the vague text is a real defensive bonus aimed squarely at one of Chapter 2’s hardest fights.

Quick answer: Equip the Mannequin on Kris to reduce damage from Puppet/Cat attacks by 35%, most importantly Spamton NEO’s bullets. Buy it for 300 D$ from the yellow Addison in Cyber City while Noelle is still in your party, because it becomes impossible to get once you reunite with Susie and Ralsei.

What the Mannequin does in battle

The Mannequin can only be equipped by Kris. When worn, it grants a hidden ability that lowers damage from the Puppet/Cat element by 35%. That resistance matters most against Spamton NEO, the secret boss of Chapter 2, since many of his bullets fall under that element. It will not turn the fight into a walkover, but it gives you extra survivability while you learn the attack patterns.

The same protection applies to several other enemies that use Puppet/Cat attacks. The Mannequin softens the following:

  • Spamton and Spamton NEO bullets
  • Tasque’s yarn balls
  • Tasque Manager’s attacks
  • Pink’s attacks
  • Shadowguy’s yarn balls during the Rouxls Kaard fight in Chapter 3

Note: the same Puppet/Cat resistance is shared by the FrayedBowtie, Dealmaker, and TrueTie, so the Mannequin is not the only way to soften those hits. The Mannequin’s 35% figure also drops to 20% starting in Chapter 5.

Where to buy the Mannequin in Cyber City

The Mannequin is sold by a yellow Addison in Cyber City’s Second Addison district. You reach this stretch after Kris splits off from Susie and Ralsei and Noelle joins the party. Push through the traffic puzzles and mouse sections until you hit the Music Shop save point. The second Addison room sits just past it.

Enter the second Addison room and walk all the way to the right side, where a yellow Addison stands outside a clothing store. This vendor only stocks one thing, the Mannequin.
Buy it for 300 Dark Dollars. The shop describes it as 75% off, which is the hint that its original price was meant to be 1200 D$.
Open your menu and equip the Mannequin on Kris before any Puppet/Cat fight, especially before challenging Spamton NEO.

When the Mannequin becomes missable

The buying window is tight. The Addison only sells the Mannequin while Noelle is in the party, or if you aborted the Weird Route. On a standard run, once you ask the Addison about Spamton, the vendor stops selling it. After you separate from Noelle and rejoin the main party, you cannot return and buy it, even by backtracking. Players committing to the Weird Route, also called the Snowgrave Route, cannot purchase it at all.

What happens if you skip it

If you never buy the Mannequin, Kris can try to slide the LoadedDisk into it instead. The disk “squirms” and refuses to fit, so this leads nowhere mechanically. At the end of Chapter 2, after you seal the Dark Fountain, the Mannequin shows up in Castle Town, this time wearing a different outfit.

A few extra details round it out. The dress strongly resembles the gown Mettaton wears during the UNDERTALE the Musical scene, down to the puffed white shoulders and blue waist bow. The mannequin frame itself echoes Spamton. There is also an unused consumable version of the Mannequin (ID 17) with no effect attached, which never made it into the playable game.

The short version: treat the Mannequin as a defensive pickup for Kris, grab it during the Cyber City Noelle segment, and equip it before Spamton NEO. Once that window closes, the only way back is a fresh standard-route playthrough.
