Prayers and Pine Nuts is a Wandering Tale in Where Winds Meet that hinges almost entirely on the in-game clock. Boss Mo wants to catch whoever keeps taking the pine nut tributes from the Master Mouse’s Shrine in Mirkvale, and the answer only turns up if you keep flipping between night and day at two different spots.

Quick answer: Eavesdrop on Shi Cucu and Yan Xiaomei in Mirkvale during the day, switch to a night hour and speak to Boss Mo at the shrine, then head up to the children’s hidden shrine and change the clock to a daytime hour until the two girls spawn. Pick up the Blessed Pine Nut on the ground, return to Boss Mo at night, and give it to him.

Requirements and starting location

The tale sits in Mirkvale, inside the Hidden Mountain – Heaven’s Threshold region, and it will not appear until you have finished the Mirkvale Campaign. It is listed under Wandering Tales as a Mirkvale entry, and the whole thing plays out between the village shrine and a higher ledge above it, near Hangrock Hamlet.

You need nothing else in your bag. There is no combat, no puzzle, and no item to craft beforehand. The only tool that matters is the time adjustment dial.

Prayers and Pine Nuts walkthrough

Open the map and set your destination to Mirkvale in Hidden Mountain – Heaven’s Threshold. Fast travel to the nearest point and glide or climb down the wooden walkways into the village proper.

While it is still daytime, walk up to Shi Cucu and Yan Xiaomei and eavesdrop on them. They talk about the Flying Squirrel Spirit, and the conversation ends with a “New Clue Acquired” prompt that starts the tale properly.
Open the Wandering Tales menu and read the new clue if you want the context. The entry for Prayers and Pine Nuts records everything you have learned so far and tracks what the game wants next.

Open the time dial and move the clock forward to a night hour, such as Hai. The shrine only lights up its candles after dark, and Boss Mo will not be standing there during the day.

Talk to Boss Mo beside the Master Mouse’s Shrine. He explains that the pine nut tributes keep disappearing, and the tale updates with a new lead.
Open the map again and mark the higher structure on the southern side of the village, near Hangrock Hamlet. Fast travel there if a point is available, then run and climb the wooden stairs and walkways up to the ledge.

Change the clock to a daytime hour so the two girls spawn at the small shrine. They are the ones praying to the Flying Squirrel Spirit, and they only exist there during the day.
Speak to Shi Cucu and Yan Xiaomei. They explain the wishes they have been making and the offerings they leave behind, which is the piece Boss Mo is missing.
Pick up the Blessed Pine Nut from the ground beside the shrine. There is also a Mouse’s Joy Gift nearby worth grabbing while you are up there.
Travel back to the Mirkvale shrine, set the time to night again, and hand the Blessed Pine Nut to Boss Mo. The thief is revealed as a flying squirrel, and the tale closes out.

Time of day needed for each stage

Every blocked step here is a clock problem, not a location problem. If an NPC is missing, the hour is wrong.

StageTime needed
Eavesdrop on Shi Cucu and Yan Xiaomei in MirkvaleDaytime
Talk to Boss Mo at the Master Mouse’s ShrineNight (Hai or Zi)
Meet the two girls at the upper shrineDaytime (Chen or Wu)
Give the Blessed Pine Nut to Boss MoNight again

Note: the exact hour that makes the girls appear can land anywhere in the daytime block, so if Chen does nothing, keep nudging the dial forward until they show up rather than assuming you are in the wrong spot.

Prayers and Pine Nuts rewards

Rewards are claimed from the Wandering Tales menu once the turn-in is done, and they match the standard payout for Heaven’s Threshold tales.

RewardAmount
Echo Jade30
Hidden Mountain Exploration10
Character EXP3,750
Coin3,750

The Mouse’s Joy Gift you collect near the children’s shrine is separate from the completion rewards, so pick it up on the way rather than expecting it in the turn-in screen.

Confirming completion and fixing a stuck tale

You know it worked when the dialogue with Boss Mo identifies the flying squirrel as the culprit and the tale flips to completed in the Wandering Tales menu, with the Echo Jade and Coin rewards ready to claim. If the entry is still showing an open clue, the turn-in did not register.

Three things account for nearly every stall. The tale does not appear at all until the Mirkvale Campaign is finished. Boss Mo and the two girls each exist only in their own half of the day-night cycle, so approaching an empty shrine usually means the clock, not a bug. And the final conversation will not resolve if you skipped the Blessed Pine Nut on the ground, since Boss Mo needs the item itself rather than the information.

Run properly, the whole thing takes a few minutes. The travel is short, the two shrines sit almost on top of each other, and the only real work is remembering to reset the clock before each conversation.
