The goose in Where Winds Meet starts out as a nuisance that chases you around Qinghe, but it can end up fighting on your side. To get it as a battle companion, you have to provoke a specific boss version of the bird, kill it, and then claim a reward from your achievements menu.
Quick answer: Travel to Moonveil Mountain in Qinghe, start healing the sick goose with Wind Sense but deliberately fail the mini-game to trigger the Demon Goose, throw it into deep water with Tai Chi to kill it, then open your profile and claim the Goose-Buster achievement to unlock the White-browed Goose (Giant Goose) companion.

Where to find the goose in Qinghe
Fast travel to the Wayfarer (Moonveil Mountain) landmark in Qinghe. The sick goose sits near a riverbed on a small island, roughly between Heaven’s Pier and Blissful Retreat, just east of Heaven’s Pier and west of Stonewash Strand. Cross the wooden bridge to reach it.
Several geese wander this area. Some will randomly attack; others stay docile. The one that matters is the injured goose you can interact with, since that is what turns into the boss.

Add to Google Preferences →Trigger the Demon Goose fight by failing the healing
The Demon Goose (also shown as the Level 50 White-browed Goose) only appears if you botch the healing quest. If you successfully treat the goose instead, you get a Sturdy Goose Egg and miss the boss entirely.

Note: Doing the Healer profession quest first gives you enough skill to heal the goose successfully. If your goal is the boss, trigger this fight before completing that profession quest, or simply skip all the cards as described above.
Defeat the Demon Goose with Tai Chi and water
Fighting this thing head-on will get you flattened at a low level. The reliable method uses a body of water and the Tai Chi mystic skill, found under the Offensive tab in the Puzzle section. Equip it before you start.

Killing it drops a few materials like Meat Scraps, Short Feather, and Stored EXP, and pops the Goose-Buster achievement (some regions also list a Goose Slayer trophy for the same feat).
Claim the goose companion from your achievements
The kill unlocks the companion, but you still need to claim it from the menu before it shows up in your roster.

The on-screen line reading “Goose combat assist unlocked” is your confirmation that it worked. If the achievement still shows locked, the Demon Goose was not defeated, so return and re-trigger the boss.
Summon the Giant Goose in battle
The goose fights as a burst DPS ally. Before entering a boss arena, look for a white marker on the ground, an Assistance Signpost, and interact with it to open the Companion Assist menu.
Select Giant Goose from the ally list and use Call for Allies to summon it. It costs 10,000 Support Collection to deploy, joins the fight to deal burst damage alongside you, and disappears once its duration runs out. It stays a permanent option you can call again from any signpost.
| Ally | Role | Support cost |
|---|---|---|
| Yi Dao | Tank | 8000 |
| Giant Goose | Burst DPS | 10000 |
| Ruby | Revive | 10000 |
| Elder Gongsun | Interrupt & Control | — |
Get a goose companion from an egg instead
If you want a goose that tags along outside of combat, collect a goose egg rather than fighting the boss. Eggs come in three types, and the one you get depends on how you obtain it.
- Sickly Goose Egg
- Sturdy Goose Egg
- Deranged Goose Egg
There are two ways to earn one. You can heal (or fail to heal) a goose, where the egg type depends on how well the treatment went, or you can freeze a nesting goose and collect a random egg. You can claim one egg per day this way.
Interact with the egg in your inventory to hatch it into a goose companion. These hatchlings do not fight, and they only follow you for 10 minutes before disappearing, so treat them as a cosmetic companion rather than a combat asset.
