Wandering Tales are hidden exploration quests scattered across the world of Where Winds Meet. They never appear as clear markers on your map, and they rarely hand you a golden path to follow. Instead, you find a clue, connect it to a person or item somewhere nearby, and piece the story together yourself. The reward is worth the effort, since most tales pay out Echo Jades, Coins, and XP.
Quick answer: To unlock and track any Wandering Tale, talk to the region’s Wayfarer to reveal the area map, then open your journal and check the Wandering Tales tab under Exploration. That tab gives you the first clue for each tale in the region.

How to unlock and track Wandering Tales
You cannot simply spot these quests on the map like normal missions. Two things make them appear.
Find and speak to the Wayfarer in each new region. Talking to them unlocks the area map and fills your journal with the first hints for that area’s tales.
Stay alert while you explore. Some tales begin the moment you walk near two people and overhear their conversation, so slow down in busy towns and listen.
Heaven’s Pier and Moonveil Mountain tales
The starting Qinghe area holds most of the early tales. These begin in and around Heaven’s Pier, Moonveil Mountain, and the Verdant Wilds.
Climb the small hill to his right, where a group of snakes sits in the grass. Use Wind Sense to spot the Old Man’s Bundle, then use Celestial Seize to grab it safely away from the snakes.
Return the Soaked Bundle to Grandpa Zhou. His wine is broken, so he asks for two fresh jars of Sacrificial Wine from the bandit camps north and south of the ruins. The wine sits on a cart in each camp.
Grab the Parting Tears from a bench south of him and give it over. He then asks for Parting Tears Reserve, found on the table at Yuan Tiantian’s food stall nearby.
For his last request, climb the stairs to the brewery storage area and collect the Large Jar of Parting Tears from under a shed. Give all three to Mu Bai to complete the tale.
Collect a jar of Parting Tears nearby, either on a bench near the Lone Drinker or on a crate at the pier, and hand it over. The map turns out to be a fake drawing, and he runs away.
Follow the road west toward Blissful Retreat. You will find him near the bridge, cornered by masked soldiers. Step in to save him and the tale completes.
Pick up a Meaty Bone near the entrance to Heaven’s Pier, on the ground beside Mu Bai, then return and feed it to Butter. The man escapes but drops a Mysterious Token, the Dragon Crest Token: Yin, on a crate.
Read the token’s description, which says to give it to Unfated Tian or Tang Bao. Travel to Blissful Retreat, find Tang Bao at the entrance, and give him the token to end the quest.
In the Verdant Wilds, find Fu Lubao, a fortune teller pacing along a path near the General’s Shrine. He mentions a nearby cave that is the real Meow Meow Temple.
Go to Aunt Han’s Room in Blissful Retreat and pick up the Old Letter from the table. This can also unlock after finishing the Worldly Affair quest in Chapter 1.
Find Pei Niang in the central area of Blissful Retreat, distressed over a stolen jar of wine. Check the tree directly to the left of his building and you will spot a piece of Yellow Fur stuck to the bark.
Speak to him about dragon scales and hand over the Dragon Crest Token to instantly complete the quest.

You will know a tale is done when the entry updates in the Wandering Tales tab and the reward pops up on screen. If a tale refuses to trigger, the usual cause is a missing requirement, such as not yet unlocking Celestial Seize for the bag-grabbing tales or not holding the correct Dragon Crest Token before speaking to the Strange Guest. Clear those blockers first, and the rest of the tales fall into place as you work through Heaven’s Pier, Blissful Retreat, and Harvestfall Village.
