World of Tanks: HEAT hands you a roster of armored vehicles that each play a different role on the battlefield, and not all of them pull their weight equally. Some tanks bring raw damage and crowd control that swing fights immediately, while others lean too far into defense or demand a high skill ceiling before they pay off. The vehicles below are sorted into three tiers so you can decide which ones deserve your credits first.
How the tier list is ranked
Tanks are graded on damage potential, the usefulness of their abilities in team fights, and how easy they are to control. A vehicle climbs higher when its kit creates pressure without forcing you into risky positions.
- S-tier: The best choices in their roles, with abilities that reliably shift a fight.
- A-tier: Strong, viable options that take some practice to reach full potential.
- B-tier: Weaker overall, either lacking power or demanding too much precision to control.
Two vehicles, the HSTV-L and the ALVT, are not yet placed. Their abilities look promising, but they still need testing in live battles before they earn a spot.

S-tier tanks in World of Tanks: HEAT
These three vehicles combine high damage with utility that punishes grouped enemies, making them the safest investments for any role.
| Model | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|
| M60A2 | Heavy damage potential thanks to autocannons that punch through thick armor. Its anti-tank guided missile also drops an area of fire on impact, dealing extra damage to anyone caught nearby. |
| Object 287 | Flexible attack tools. A harpoon pulls you toward an enemy tank while disabling it, and you can drop hedgehogs that hurt any enemy that rams them. Reactivating the ability instantly destroys them. |
| Marder 1A3 | Suppression Strike deals damage and applies stacking Fragile, raising the damage the target takes. Smart Mines can add three more stacks or max out existing ones. Both abilities do direct damage and make Fragile a strong team-fight tool. |
A-tier tanks worth unlocking
A-tier vehicles are dependable picks, but most need practice or team coordination before they hit their ceiling. The XM1 90 stands out because it is free and beginner friendly.
| Model | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|
| XM1 90 | A free hybrid tank with a dual-fire mode for flexibility. Its Unload ability can one-shot squishy tanks by firing multiple rounds in seconds. |
| M3E1 | Carries TOW missiles that pierce heavy armor and set tanks on fire for damage over time. The Laser Designator marks enemies and makes them vulnerable, though its value depends on your allies following up. |
| XM1V | Built for disruption. Demolition Charges damage and slow enemies, while Minefield immobilizes them. It would sit in S-tier if its damage output were higher. |
| M60A1 | Uses an auto-targeting .50 cal to damage and slow enemies. You can also charge into them for big damage and force them out of position. |
| M1E1 | A beginner-friendly tank with a self-targeting turret and a shield that blocks incoming damage while capturing objectives. The barrier stops you from firing, which keeps it out of S-tier. |
B-tier tanks and why they fall short
B-tier vehicles either depend too heavily on teammates, lean too far into defense, or punish small mistakes. Several can perform well in skilled hands, but better options exist for the same role.
| Model | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|
| AMX10 RC | Top-Attack missiles can hit up to two traced tanks, so you rely on someone else to trace them. Using the UAV drone to trace yourself wastes an ability. |
| FV4030 X | Can jam nearby enemies and raise a ballistic shield, but it is too defensive. The Jamming Field only works when enemies are close. |
| M551A1 | A close-range threat that deals damage and can deploy a shield. Getting close is not the dominant playstyle right now, and it is the hardest tank to master. |
| T-62AV | Strong if you can maneuver it. Pyro-Trail leaves a damaging fire trail, but you need an enemy to chase you first. Rocket Barrage is decent but outclassed. |
| LEO 1A6A1 | Places a decoy and can pin enemies with a trapping shot for explosion damage. The decoy has a very short placement range and the Trapping Shot damage is weak. |
Pairing tanks with Agents
A strong tank is only half the equation. Each Agent brings its own Ultimate and trait, and the combination of Agent and vehicle decides how well you perform. Stick to an Agent's dominant role, whether that is Defender, Assault, or Marksman, and your chosen tank will hold up across most matches. Chopper, Raketa, and Hound currently lead the Agent rankings and pair naturally with the higher-tier vehicles.
World of Tanks: HEAT is free to play, so you can test these picks at no cost before spending credits to unlock the rest of the roster.
