World of Warcraft: How to Complete Winds in the Desert in Durotar

Winds in the Desert is an early Durotar quest that sends you into Razorwind Canyon to recover a stolen caravan shipment. The twist that trips up most players is that the Sacks of Supplies are not enemy drops. They sit on the ground as glowing objects, so you loot them directly rather than farming harpies for them.

Quick answer: Take the quest from Rezlak near Orgrimmar, enter Razorwind Canyon, loot 5 Sacks of Supplies off the ground near the cacti and walls, then return to Rezlak to turn it in.

Winds in the Desert quest requirements

This is a level 9 quest that opens up once you reach level 7. Both factions can pick it up, though only Horde characters earn the faction reputation attached to it. Keep at least one free inventory slot open before you start, since each sack takes a bag space until you hand them in.

Grab Securing the Lines from Rezlak at the same time. It asks you to kill Dustwind harpies, so you can clear both objectives on a single trip through the canyon.

Where to find Razorwind Canyon

Rezlak stands at a roadside caravan camp just south of Orgrimmar, on the eastern side of the main road at roughly 46, 22. From there, head across the road and follow the large canyon that runs between Razor Hill and Orgrimmar. The opening into Razorwind Canyon sits at about 49.8, 28.1, cut into the walls on both the west and east sides.

The canyon is populated by Dustwind Pillager (level 8) and Dustwind Harpy (level 9) enemies. You can fight through them or slip past and grab the sacks while they are distracted, since the supplies do not depend on killing anything.

How to collect all 5 Sacks of Supplies

The Sacks of Supplies are lootable ground objects that appear as glowing gold bags with a sparkle outline. They spawn along the canyon floor, most often tucked against the walls and around the clusters of cacti. When you loot one, the counter updates in your quest log and a fresh sack can respawn elsewhere in the canyon.

Enter the canyon and look to the sides of the path. The first sack usually sits near the entrance beside the cacti. Walk up to it and interact to start looting.

Continue deeper into the canyon and sweep both the left and right walls. Sacks are scattered up and down the gulch, so check every cactus cluster as you move through.

Deal with any Dustwind Pillagers or Harpies that aggro while you gather. They are low level, and clearing them also feeds progress on Securing the Lines if you accepted it.

Keep looting until the counter reaches 4/5. If you run short, wait a moment or push further along the ravine, as new sacks spawn in different spots after you pick them up.

Grab the fifth and final sack. Once you loot it, the quest log reads 5/5 Sack of Supplies and you get the Objective Complete message.

Turn in Winds in the Desert to Rezlak

Once you have all five sacks, exit the canyon and go east to the road. Find Rezlak at the caravan campsite beside the campfire near the road, then turn in the quest. The quest log will show it as complete, and Rezlak will offer Securing the Lines as the follow-up for you to accept right away.

Alliance characters can complete the quest as well, but they only gain Ratchet reputation from it. Either way, accepting Securing the Lines before you leave keeps the chain moving as you work toward level 10 and beyond.
