Where to find Elagast Thompaw, which mobs drop Pristine Shriekling Feathers, and how to confirm all 20 are collected.

Feathers for Binding is an early Shadowgale Forest quest in World of Warcraft: Forever, handed out by the Nightclaw Druid Elagast Thompaw on Zephyros Isle. It is a straightforward collection task, but the drop it asks for comes from a single mob family, so knowing exactly what to kill saves a lot of wandering.

Quick answer: Take Feathers for Binding from Elagast Thompaw in Shadowgale Forest, kill Shadowgale Shrieklings inside the blue quest area until you loot 20 Pristine Shriekling Feathers, then return to him.

Zephyros Isle is split into named regions on the world map, with Shadowgale Forest sitting next to the Ruins of Bana’ethal. Opening the map before you start is worth the extra second, because the quest area and the neighboring ruins look similar on the ground and the shriekling spawns do not cross over.

How to complete Feathers for Binding

Find Elagast Thompaw in Shadowgale Forest and talk to him. Accept Feathers for Binding from his dialogue to add the 20-feather objective to your quest log.
Open your map and look for the blue highlighted region inside Shadowgale Forest. That shaded area marks where Shadowgale Shrieklings spawn, and it is the only place you need to hunt.

Move into the highlighted area and start killing Shadowgale Shrieklings. Loot every corpse, since Pristine Shriekling Feathers only appear in the mob’s loot window and are not picked up from the ground.

Work outward through the forest as you clear packs. Shrieklings respawn across the highlighted region, so moving between clusters keeps the count climbing instead of waiting in one spot.

Keep an eye on the objective tracker rather than your bags. The counter updates the moment a feather is looted, which is the fastest way to tell whether a kill actually paid out.

Follow the stone path with the lamp posts for the final few kills. Shrieklings patrol along that stretch, and it is an easy route to sweep when you are only a couple of feathers short.

Once the tracker reads 20/20, travel back to Elagast Thompaw and click Complete Quest in his dialogue window to hand in the feathers.

Confirming the quest is done

Two signals confirm the objective is finished. The tracker shows 20/20 Pristine Shriekling Feathers before turn-in, and after you click Complete Quest, you receive experience and a reputation gain, with Feathers for Binding dropping out of your quest log.

Feathers do not drop from every shriekling, so expect a stretch where the counter sits still for a couple of kills. That is normal and not a sign the quest has bugged out.

Where this fits in Forever’s beta

Shadowgale Forest and the rest of Zephyros Isle are currently playable in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, which went live earlier this month. Blizzard has been posting daily known-issues lists while it works through launch-day problems, so quest behavior in this zone can shift between builds.

The full release is set for November 4, 2026. Until then, treat drop rates and spawn density in Shadowgale Forest as beta-state numbers that may be tuned before launch.
