Servers go dark from 7 AM to 3 PM PDT for Curse of Ula’tek, which brings the Coiled Isle and a heavy round of class tuning.

World of Warcraft: Midnight goes offline for extended maintenance on August 11 so Blizzard can push Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek. This is the pre-season kickoff for the expansion’s second chapter, and it lands with one of the biggest class-balance passes since Midnight launched.

Quick answer: Modern realms are down from 7 AM to 3 PM PDT on August 11. When they come back up, you’ll be on Patch 12.1. WoW Classic realms only go offline for about an hour.

Estimated server restart: August 11, 2026, 3 PM PDT (subject to change)

WoW Midnight maintenance times on August 11

The maintenance window runs from 7 AM PDT to 3 PM PDT. That’s an eight-hour block, which is longer than a normal weekly reset, but it’s standard for a patch this size. Blizzard has confirmed the start time, though patch-day work can always run long, so treat 3 PM PDT as a target rather than a guarantee.

If you still want to log in somewhere, WoW Classic realms are only scheduled for about an hour of downtime, so those come back well before modern WoW does.

When servers come back online in your region

The expected restart is 3 PM PDT. Depending on where you live, that falls on either August 11 or the early hours of August 12. These are the estimated return times, and they can shift if the rollout takes longer.

RegionEstimated server-up time
United States & South America3 PM PST / 4 PM MST / 5 PM CST / 6 PM EST / 8 PM BRT
Europe11 PM GMT / 11 PM UTC / 12 AM CEST (Aug 12) / 1 AM EET (Aug 12)
Africa1 AM SAST (Aug 12)
Asia3 AM GST / 4:30 AM IST / 7 AM PHT / 7 AM CST Beijing / 8 AM JST/KST (Aug 12)
Australia & New Zealand10 AM AEDT / 12 PM NZDT (Aug 12)

You’ll know the patch is live once you can log in, get pushed through the client update, and land on the new build. If you get a client version mismatch or the realm list shows nothing, maintenance is still running and you just need to wait.

What Patch 12.1 adds

Curse of Ula’tek opens up the Coiled Isle, a serpent-themed outdoor zone off the east coast of Zul’Aman that was visible but locked off at Midnight’s launch. The story follows Zul’jarra as she chases her brother onto the island and uncovers what’s been sealed away there. These are the headline additions arriving on day one.

FeatureDetails
The Coiled IsleNew outdoor zone with the Vaults of Atal’Utek, a custom Altar of Corrosion talent tree, and tortollan reputation.
Curse SurgesRegularly spawn rare elites at five rotating spots around the isle.
Altar of FangsNew three-boss dungeon, available up to Mythic 0 at patch launch.
LairsInstanced world bosses scaling up to flexible Mythic (15–25 players), starting with the Tidebound Grotto.
New DelvesThe Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve.
Prey Season 2New serpent-themed hunts and targets across the Coiled Isle.
Training GroundsExpands beyond Battlegrounds to add 3v3 Arenas versus bots.

The Venomous Abyss raid, Mythic+ Season 2, ranked PvP Season 2, and Bountiful Delves don’t arrive with the patch. They unlock a week later when Midnight Season 2 begins the week of August 18. Note that Season 1 rewards, including Cutting Edge, Ahead of the Curve, and Season 1 Keystone Master, lock the moment realms go down for maintenance on August 11, not when Season 2 starts.

Class balance direction in 12.1

Two global changes reshape combat for everyone at max level. Player health and creature damage both go up by 25%, with health consumables retuned to match. The goal is to make incoming damage less spiky so healing feels smoother instead of a series of panic buttons.

The other broad theme is cooldown pacing. Several specs lose some burst throughput during their big cooldown windows and gain steady-state damage in return, so the stretches between cooldowns don’t feel dead. A few smaller class-wide tweaks land alongside these.

  • Missed interrupts now show a “missed” visual and play a separate sound over the target’s head.
  • Crowd control diminishing returns reset after 20 seconds instead of 16.
  • Earthen see exploration experience cut by 60% at baseline, offset by a stronger Ingest Minerals.

Nearly every specialization gets touched. Standouts include Unholy Death Knight’s summon rework, Marksmanship Hunter’s redesigned Explosive Shot, Arcane Mage’s new Prismatic Bolt apex talent, Fury Warrior getting single-target value back on Whirlwind, and Rend becoming an Arms-exclusive ability that other specs apply through new talents.

Gearing and reward changes

Season 2 raises the value of Great Vault rewards across the board. Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic vault loot now arrives at the first step of the next harder difficulty’s upgrade track, so Heroic raid vault picks come in at Myth 1/6. Mythic raid vault rewards land at Myth 6/6, with Very Rare items and loot from the last two bosses coming in at the Myth 9 equivalent.

  • Nebulous Voidcores from Season 1 convert to gold when the season ends and can’t be used in Season 1 content.
  • Rolling for a raid item now costs 1 Nebulous Voidcore instead of 2.
  • Class set armor now inherits secondary and tertiary stats plus certain cantrip effects when converted at the Catalyst.
  • Ritual Site tiers 1–6 vault rewards and crests now match the Season 2 Delve tiers.

Kirana, the class set vendor, has moved near the Catalyst in Silvermoon and now stocks Midnight Season 2 class set armor in exchange for Slumbering Coil Curios. Orin Straylight, who handles Voidcores, has relocated there too and can provide one extra Voidcore per week starting the eighth week of Season 2.

PvP changes worth knowing

Blizzard is dialing back movement slows across nearly every class, generally dropping snares one tier so a 70% slow becomes 50%, a 50% becomes 30%, and so on. The focus is on the strong snares that get applied automatically during normal rotations, while many activated slows keep their strength.

  • Players receive 20% less healing in Battlegrounds.
  • Fear and Disorient no longer allow knockback effects to move you.
  • Gladiator’s Distinction now grants 15% primary stat (was 12%) for tank and damage roles.
  • Missing a Solo Shuffle or Battleground Blitz queue applies a stacking, account-wide 1-minute requeue debuff.

Interface and quality-of-life updates

The built-in Cooldown Manager keeps growing. It now tracks trinkets, potions, and racial ability cooldowns and durations, and healers can assign visual alerts to specific group buffs. The Ping System also expands, letting you ping the action bar, spells on the Cooldown Manager, certain items, and player resources like health bars.

  • Auto Loot is now an account-wide setting.
  • Auction House filters persist across sessions.
  • The World Map can display coordinates for your character and cursor, under Gameplay > Interface.
  • Raid and party frames now support the Frame Size setting and can scale up by 100%.

Once the patch is live, the fastest way to confirm everything applied is to log in, check that the Coiled Isle is reachable, and open the Cooldown Manager to see the new trinket and potion tracking. If you rely on addons, expect to spend a little time reconfiguring them after a patch of this scale.
