How to Save Your Knight From the Act 2 Murder in Sovereign Tower

The murder can be undone with a precise Crypt Demon rewind to one exact morning, not just any point before it happens.

The murder can be undone with a precise Crypt Demon rewind to one exact morning, not just any point before it happens.

The Act 2 murder in Sovereign Tower reads like a scripted loss. A knight you have relied on for roughly ten cycles turns up dead, and it feels fixed. It is not. The death can be reversed, and no knight has to stay in the grave. The catch is that the Crypt Demon rewind has to land on the morning of one specific day, and hitting that exact slot unlocks a dialogue path that lets you talk the killer down before he acts. Heavy Act 2 spoilers follow.

Quick answer: Assign the murderer to investigate his own crime, sit through his full account, then rewind to the morning of the day marked “before the murder.” In Alwena’s audience, choose to speak to the murderer instead of locking the victim’s room, and press him about the voices manipulating him.

When the murder happens in Act 2

The death occurs in Act 2, around Cycle 10 or 11. Playing cautiously will not let you dodge it, which is why most players meet it with no warning. The Steam achievement tied to your first casualty sits at 72.3 percent, so nearly three quarters of players have taken the hit at least once.

The exact sequence that prevents the murder

Send the murderer himself to investigate the death. This feels backwards, and it is the part people skip. He will fumble the investigation, then explain what actually happened. That confession is the flag the game needs before anything else works.
Hear his full account when he returns. Do not head to the crypts yet. If you rewind before listening, the demon only taunts you about letting it happen again, and nothing changes in the timeline.
Rewind to the morning of the marked day. The demon offers a date labelled as before the murder. Take that exact date and choose the morning slot. Any earlier point on the timeline will not trigger the fix.

Choose the new audience option. Alwena comes to you that morning and mentions noise from the rooms. Before, your only real move was to lock the victim’s room. Now a second option lets you go speak to the murderer directly. Take it.
Ask him about the voices. Press him on hearing them and on being manipulated. He admits it, and you can then tell the Crypt Demon you suspect him of being behind those voices. With that confrontation done, the murder no longer plays out and the knight survives the cycle.

Why your Crypt Demon rewind is not working

The morning slot is the whole trick. Return to a vague point before the murder and it simply repeats, which is why many players decide the murderless route is a myth. The game even warns you earlier that time travel changes who shows up for an audience that day. That reads like a reason to avoid precise rewinds, but it is the opposite. That warning is the mechanic you are meant to use.

What does not stop the murder

A few natural-seeming moves waste your time. Skip these and go straight to the sequence above.

  • Dismissing the victim before the murder and re-inviting them after. They die in the next audience segment regardless.
  • Putting a different knight on the investigation. You get no follow-up dialogue at all, so the confession flag never triggers.
  • Repeating rewinds without new information. The demon has a line for that, and it is not a kind one.

Who the murderer is in Sovereign Tower

In the documented run, the killer was Gwendan, and his traits line up with it: Noble Soul, Fear of the Dark, Arrogant, and In Debt. A knight under that much strain is an easy mark for whatever is whispering to him.

Treat that name as a strong lead rather than a fixed fact. Outcomes can shift between runs, so run the investigation yourself and confirm the culprit in your own save before you confront anyone. The investigation step doubles as your verification, since the confession names the guilty knight directly.

Gwendan death sentence bug at launch

There is a launch bug to watch for if you go the punishment route instead of saving him. A death sentence does not resolve cleanly. Gwendan keeps talking to you after the hearings, his aunt Gwendolen arrives to break the alliance over the execution, and the pawnbroker still shows up about his debts. You will also find him alive in the Tower, with the usual choice to pay his debt or banish him. Until it is patched, expect the sentenced knight to linger rather than disappear.
